I found a 10 yr old gift card in my drawer!
My mom sent us a $50 gift card 10 years ago. We were doing some remodeling then and I just put it in a drawer and forgot it.
It says right on it that it expires 2 years after issue. However, I live in Calif and it is illegal for gift cards to expire and they can't have fees.
Yippee! I'm going shopping.
I think it is terrible that companies will charge a fee or have cards expire considering they have all the money up front.

As long as it was purchased after January 1997 you're good to go spend it!

The law for gift cards isn't retroactive so the gift card would've been purchased after the law went into effect. I'm guessing it went into effect in january 1997.

Must have. However, Fla still allows them to expire. We gave my mom gift cards at her favorite place to buy her meds. She placed some in a drawer. We found them when she died 2 years ago. They wouldn't honor them because they were over 2 years old. I think that is B S.

That's why stores love to sell gift cards. People forget to use them and it's like free money to them.
I found one at my MIL's after she died and it was 2 yrs old and we used it, so it hadn't expired. It must depend on the store???

I stick in my wallet right away. And use them. I am toooooo thrifty (to use a nice word) to let them be forgotten!
