Cotton Candy Grapes

  • I was at Fresh Market today and saw they had Cotton Candy Grapes. Having read about them recently I decided to try them. And yes they absolutely taste like cotton candy.

They are only available in August and aren't widely available, but are worth a try if only for the novelty. And if you love cotton candy, you should find them delicious. I did.

I'm wondering about buying some more just to freeze them. Do grapes freeze well?
  • Grapes freeze well as long as you eat them frozen or are going to cook them down into a syrup or jam. Thawed to room temp the texture is kind of icky (in my opinion). You can let them start to thaw, so they have a slushy texture, or straight from rhe freezer they'll have a popsicle texture.

    I LOVE frozen grapes.
  • I absolutely love frozen grapes. It's one of my go to healthy snacks.

I've found that they don't keep for an extended period of time though. They start turning brown and somewhat mushy after 2-3 weeks, maybe less. It's been awhile since I've had grapes as they're quite expensive here out of season.
  • I've never heard of cotton candy grapes, but I'm crazy interested! That would be so weird to eat, I think my taste buds would be confused haha. But I second (third?) what the others said, frozen grapes are super yummy, but don't forget 'em in there because they don't last forever.
  • yea they sell them at sprouts as well and at central market they have this "thing" (apples) that are called grapples and they are just apples that taste like grapes lol but i didn't like them
  • Grapples have artificial grape flavor added. Cotton candy grapes allegedly have no flavoring added, they're just naturally bred that way, apparently.
  • I say if you like them go for it but generally grapes have a lot of sugar, so freezing is a good way to portion control them. I imagine cotton candy grapes may actually have a higher sugar content? (bred for sweetnesss) but who knows.

Edited to add: I was able to find it. They are slightly more caloric at 50 calories per half cup vs 31 calories per cup of regular grapes. I am guessing that grapes calorie count is an average though because I'm sure some grapes are less calories than others (like I find green grapes pretty sweet but black grapes seem less)
