Default NSV: I climbed a flight of stairs today!

Okay, not just any stairs. THE stairs at the Porter Sq. MBTA stop in Boston, ascending three subway levels and comprising 199 steps. I was in workout clothes after a run, and figured, why not? I was carrying 15 lbs of Trader Joe's groceries at the time, and, yes, people looked at me like I was crazy.

Let me tell you, my quads felt like lead after that. But so worth it.

The best part? A pretty buff, athletic guy saw me take on those steps and tried to follow. And by follow, I mean, catch up. So we raced. He didn't catch up. And then I saw him wimp out and actually rest his head on the handrail on the next flight... going up the escalators.

The scale has been all over the place this week -- and only up, but I'm taking my fitness accomplishment and running with it.

Good job! That's awesome! It's fun to weave in exercise in the middle of "normal" activities... everything thankfully doesn't have to be formal exercise on a treadmill or in a gym... like smoking the buff, athletic guy on the forever long stairwell at the T station!

Haha, I kind of wanted to see if any of you would panic when reading the headline and think "WHAT KIND OF SHAPE IS THIS GIRL IN?!"

But yeah, I did the calculations and I think 199 steps counts as a full 12-story office building!! Maybe I'll make one of my next workouts to run to that MBTA station (~1 mile) and then do steps up and down.

Sweet! It feels good to build exercise into daily life like that. Like "bonus points" or something. So do you live in Bahston then?

Dynamite!!!

I have been up those very stairs - but only a few times. The escalators are rather convenient.
