I started running at about 260 and ran my first 5k race (or most of it!) at about 215, my first 10k at about 190 and my first half marathon at 165.

Curly....I started running when I was about 215 and started off doing 3-5 minutes at a time. Since I committed to running a 5K in April, I've stepped it up quite abit to where I'm running almost 25 minutes at a time. If you're thinking about running....just start!!!

Anyone else have problems with pain in their feet and ankles after running? The next two days after I run, my feet and ankles always hurt. It's not a right away type thing at all, I never have a problem until the next morning. If you've had this, what did you do about it? Or did it just go away after your body got used to running? I enjoy running, but I can't do it if it's going to make mere walking painful for the next 2 days, KWIM?

Okay dumb question perhaps. I've thought about trying this couch to 5k thing for a while and might actually give the first session a whirl today but I'm a little confused.
It says a brisk 5 min walk to warm up and then you alternate 60 seconds of jogging with 90 seconds of walking and keep repeating for a total of 20 minutes. So do you actually do the cycle for 20 minutes for a grand total of 25 minutes workout or do you cycle for 15 minutes for a total 20 minute workout with the warm-up?

Thanks!

Heather - it's actually 30 minutes.
5 minute warm up walk

Alternating sets of 60 second jog/90 second walk - you do (I think) 8 sets. Whatever totals out 20 minutes.

Then you do a 5 minute cool down walk.

I recommend downloading some mp3s or podcasts if you can. They have been very helpful for me to keep track of how many sets I have done.

I just started this today. I downloaded the podcasts last night. I think I can/should jog a little faster the next time (Monday) that I do this. After I finished the podcast, I kept walking until I got to 5K.

I plan on doing a 5k fun run/walk in July....I hope to be able to run most of it by then.

Yeah I'm going to have to see if I'm smart enough to get the podcast on my player ( I have a Sony mp3 player not an Ipod). I don't think I can keep up with dogs, myself and the time! Does anyone have a good one they use for the program with music - I'm a rocker kinda girl. Thanks!

Hey ladies... since this thread is 2 years old, you should come join us in the April C25K thread. It's mostly accountability, but also plenty of questions/advice, etc.
