Default Winter Workouts?

I was exercising regularly up until it started raining really hard around here and got real cold. My main exercise was riding my bike around the neighborhood. There's a loop that I would count laps around and as I got better, I would increase the laps and the time. Also, I would go different routes to avoid getting bored. Plus, I was getting additional exercise from walking up to the bus stop (about 3/4 to a mile walk).

I don't have a gym membership right now, and I was wondering what others do to keep the exercise routine going even if the weather doesn't permit? I'm sure others have even worse conditions than me (considering I'm in California, and all we deal with mostly is rain... no snow or anything).

I'm a gym girl mainly so I still walk to the gym, wrapped up in a million layers! I love swimming in winter too, I pretend I am somewhere exotic...........until a liitle kid lands on my head and reminds me I am in a council gym in England...sigh.

I hate exercise videos, but I use these in winter, usually dancey ones, as they are the only ones I can stand, or I do a few minutes and check out the moves, then ditch the videos and just dance to boppy music instead.

I am not so steady on my feet, I have a few co-ordination issues, so its dangerous for me to walk in the ice, which is the main issue here, so that's when the videos come in handy.

I live in NC and around here they open the malls early for people who want to walk. I also do Oxycise (they even have a routine you can do in the car while driving!) and sometimes I do a tape by The Firm or I just dance to some great music and do lunges, squats, etc.

Oh yeah - also, I have gotten into trying to walk outdoors almost regardless of the weather - I just bundle up and wear a raincoat if I need to. You would not believe the wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you do your normal exercise even with obstacles in the way. It really makes you feel how serious you are about the lifestyle change - and it's fun!
