it's possible but I do think HR is what counts....I do treadmill because I love the running...ellipticals throw me off balance and stairsteppers are hard on my knees but I can see how those would be great for HIIT too!

That's totally true. And a good reason to...not do HIIT on treadmills since if you're going CRAZY HARD you might not HAVE the few seconds it takes to manually lower the speed!
