Does anyone else here ride? Do you think it qualifies as exercise? Are there any exercises anyone does on horseback?

I love horseback riding... I never really thought of it as "exercise" but you're definitely burning more calories then sitting on the couch... and if you're doing jumps or riding really hard or on a fox hunt or something like that... That's pretty strenuous, so I would definitely consider that a "workout"

Talking

I used to be very much into horseback riding and am going to start getting back into it. I think it can count as exercise definitely. When you post (rise up and down) at the trot, that can be quite tiring if you're not used to it. I built up a lot of muscles in my legs from riding, squeezing not kicking the horse.

I am so glad to hear that others here love horses and horseback riding!

Horses are wonderful and so therapeutic

It's great to see some other equestriennes!

Ride on!

feel free to message me via this site too re: horse back riding

Assuming you ride english. Sitting trot WITH stirrrups is great for your core. Two point with or without stirrups will make your legs work. Walk trot transistions in your two point without letting your butt touch the saddle. No stirrup work but make sure you dont grip with your knees. Double Posting ~ instead of up down up down. Go up for 2 beats and down for 2 beats so up up down down. Double posting is especially challenging when done with one stirrup. Just putzing around is not enought to make you fitter but these things will help and improve your riding too!
