I just have a question as to why you made it wrote NOT Bulimia in bold? Just a question?

because, i think, in my experience anyway, people who have known of my disease have assumed that all with anorexia purge. i think the distinction is important.

We all live to manipulate food to avoid living. Feel free to post in our weekly check-ins. We are all working on a journey of recovery.

Girl81- I'm also recovering from anorexia, trying to maintain my weight but it's a very hard struggle to just let it all go and lose it all again. I'm in therapy and just signed up for an eating disorder support group.. But i take it a day at a time and try to handle the guilt with eating.. Email me if you like! [email protected]

Hi, girl81 and Vanessa, and anyone else out there reading this. I've struggled with anorexic issues for the better part of two decades. My friend finally begged me to get help. I'm in therapy, for general issues, but, he doesn't seem to be particularly helpful with eating disorders. He just says, "you know what you need to do, so, just do it." Well, if I did Anyway, I'll continue to see him, as, we have a good relationship, but, think I'll find an ED specialist. Oh, I'm not bulimic, I alternate between starving, and binging, to make up for having eaten so little.
Really need help, thanks for listening.

I'm not an expert on Eating Disorders, however, I try to learn a lot as I am struggling to recover from and eating disorder that is a mixture of both anorexia and bulimia; however, the binging and then later starving yourself, to sort of make up for the
"bad" eating, is a form of bulimia.

I've found that the hardest part in trying to get help from the ones I love, is the ignorance they have towards a disease that consumes a persons entire life. Bulimia is not just throwing up, there's a lot more to it, in fact, I don't always vomit, but sometimes exert the extra calories consumed by fasting there after or using laxatives, or excersizing ALOT. I'll be back on later, because I really need support, and my mom is in denial, but I really know that I need to get better!

Hey girls,

I've recently quit seeing my therapist and elected to go to an ED support group and a specialist. Granted my therapist was nice, but with ED's, it's more specialized since there are mental and physical issues. I've never purged, tempted yes, but I could never bring myself to do that. I mostly fast or really restrict my food intake, and sometimes I'll eat my dysfunctional version of "normal" LOL which would be little compared to normal people. ODAT is what I keep telling myself, but thank god I have it in my mind now that I have to eat in order to survive.
Amie-Please seek another therapist!!! I was in the same position and my therapy was going no where. It was nice to talk to someone about it, but I was still relying on my bad habits.
Jazz-When you say your mom is in denial, do you mean she doesn't think you have a problem?

My love and prayers to you all, I"m always here!

Well for the longest time, there was no eating disorder support groups anywhere, not even a eating disorder specialist.. But recently a mental health organization created a support group with a specialist to oversee it. I work in mental health(funny I know!) so they sent my company a flyer to post around. I just called them up, filled out some papers and Dec 1st is our first meeting. I don't know where you live, I guess it varies by population maybe? You can always do a search on "eating disorder support groups" or the like, and it could list several options.
Any questions, feel free to ask!
Good luck
Vanessa
