Default Protein Powder

Hi,

I am looking for a really good protein powder and knew this was the place to go to take a poll on what is best.

I would like to find one that gives the best "bang for the buck" ie best flavor/highest in protein/low in calories.

Thanks in advance

Do you want a protein powder that is plain, unflavored, so you can use it as an ingredient in your own recipes? Or are you looking for a flavored protein drink that contains other ingredients?

I would like options for both a protein powder that I can have on its own (vanilla, chocolate, etc.) and one that mixes well for recipes.

I buy the plain kind from Trader Joes. I think it's made from soy whey? 100 cals for 2 scoops. 23 g of protein. It also has some calcuim. Little to no flavor - I add it to oatmeal or smoothies or in soups, the possibilities are endless..

I buy GNC vanilla whey protein powder... I always buy vanilla because it's the easiest to add flavours too, strawberries, blueberries, banana, coco powder, etc...

As far as protein drinks goes, what one person will love another will hate, you have to experiment... GNC sell individual packets for you to try before buying a large tub...

I like Designer Whey in chocolate or vanilla, and my husband likes Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey Gold Standard.

My Wal Mart sells the 2# enormous jug of EAS Chocolate protein powder for $13.00. If you mix it with just a LITTLE bit of warm water (4oz or so max!) it makes a nice creamy hot-chocolate like drink. i can't stand it with cold water and i can't stand it really watered down. I tried the Designer Whey from TJ's in Vanilla and i thought it was yucky.

Talking of protein powder, does anyone know whether I can count it as breakfast? I can't face eating first thing in the morning (I have to be up and about for at least 2-3 hours) but am quite happy having a protein shake (or other liquid such as a smoothie).

However because it's liquid will my body recognise it? Or will it still be in fasting mode until I eat something solid?

A protein shake is fine for breakfast, it's something to "break the fast" and it's very healthy...

I buy my protein powder from www.vigorousliving.com It's called American whey. Its the only protein powder i've found that i actually enjoy the taste of. I usually mix it in the blender with some peanut butter and ice and water and it makes a pretty good shake.
