Although the Atkins book says you don't have to count calories, it does state that 1500 calories/day is going to bring faster weight loss than 2200, or some such statement. It's a personal choice. The thing I like about carb counting is that if I have a particular hungry day, I can eat additional protein/fat without getting a gain.
I have been doing a form of Atkins for 10 days so far and have lost 7 lbs. I did not do any body measuring. My version includes some other veggies other than the 2 small greens salads that are included in Induction. I do have an occasional diet soda, but never use protein bars or shakes. I just prefer to eat real food, but these things do help some people.
