Default Does anyone add fiber to their food?

I found some Benefiber in our cabinet this morning and added it to my oatmeal. Does anyone else add fiber to their food? Does this lower the points?

If the oatmeal has fewer than 4 grams of fiber, it could conceivably lower the points.

For a serving or two, it doesn't really hurt to readjust points this way, but you have to remember that the points are a shortcut to calorie counting, and ultimately calories count, so if you added fiber to everything to lower it's point value, your weight loss would be affected (and you'd probably get one heck of a tummy ache).

One of my WW leaders mentioned this when they first limited the fiber to 4 grams per serving of food - that this was part of the reason for the change. Some people were adding fiber to their food or choosing high fiber, high calorie foods too often (like some brands of breakfast cookies) in order to eat a lot more calories for their point allotment, resulting in weight gains or non-losses.

So use common sense, and if it isn't affecting your weight loss, don't sweat it.

If you do remember that (as stated above) you can only count 4 gms towards lower the points which equates to .8 points MAX off and that you need to add the calories in also (Both Benefiber and the Metimucil one has calories per serving)..thus it canx out really.

You should be getting at least 25 grams of Fiber a day. If you look up the foods you are eating you may find that you dont have to add any fiber. I picked up the Dr.Phil Ultimate weight Loss Solution Food Guide on Amazon for less then $1 + shipping.
It has the calories, fat, carbs, protein, cholesterol, sodium, sugars and fiber content of foods. I found I was eating at least 30 grams a day just eating Whole Grains and Fresh Fruits and Veggies. You may be too.

So, My advise, look at they journals and figure your fiber before adding extra.
