Default Effective?

Ok, so, for the past 3 days i've been going to Driver's Ed. Class from 8-10, then me and my friend walk around town, doing random things, for 30 minutes (15 minutes there, then wait for 2-3 hours until our scheduled driving time, then 15 minutes back). I'm wondering if this walking around is going to be effective enough to help me lose, we dont walk very fast, and because we get done at about 2:15 then at home I have a lot of stuff to do and i really dont have much time to do anything else..i have this class for 3 weeks. My calorie deficit is always above 500. Today is was 973. Im not the type that has to work my butt off for an hour of exercise to lose...i can do light exercise and still lose, but im wondering if this is too light. My heart rate maybe gets a little faster, but nothing serious.

Any input appreciated.

Well, the walking burns calories, which is good for weight loss, which will happen no matter how slowly you walk. However, it won't improve your fitness level / cardiovascular health much, because you aren't getting your heartrate up.

Unfortunately, no one can tell you if this is "enough" but your body...it will lose weight if this added activity is enough.

You might suggest to your friend picking up the pace and/or walking for a longer period to get greater benefits. Or, buy a cheap pedometer (10-15 dollars, usually) and try to hit 10,000 steps per day, including your walks with your friend.
