Default Thinking of training for upcoming walk/run

There's a 2 mile walk my mom and I do every year as part of an Apple Festival in October. It's a race, but we choose to walk it for fun instead. I was thinking of training for it by powerwalking everyday on my treadmill. I'm very busy and can only do short spurts maybe 2 times a day (I'm a full time working mom with 2 kids in elementary school). Is it possible to get anything out of 15 minute powerwalks, possibly one in the AM, and one before bed? My treadmill has an incline. The race is in the hills above my town.

I weigh 175-ish, 5'4", and 34 years old. I finished 2nd in another race (powerwalking) last year. I can increase my time ten fold if I dropped the chunky weight (about 30 lbs), I just know it! I was athletic before I had the kids, ballooned the last 10 years, and got lazy! It would be fantastic if I got back into shape again. I need a motivator to do it and thought the upcoming race in October could be it. But if short spurts of powerwalking isn't enough, than I just don't want to waste that precious time doing it.

TIA for any advice for me.
