30-Somethings - 9 week WORKERS DAY GOAL! (LABOR DAY)

Starting the week after the 4th. We have 9 weeks until labor day. So let's have another challenge.
My starting weight: 213.0
My goal: 15lbs.
I will fill in this after I weigh around the 10th.

I have 8 weigh ins before then - the last one being on August 30th - so I'm going for 8 pounds. Will have my starting weight after weigh in on Thursday night.

Well, as you may already be aware, me meeting my July 4th goal, was like watching the film Titanic. You wanted Titanic to complete her maiden voyage, but 30 minutes into the film you knew it weren't gonna happen :lol:
However, I am truly up for the Labour (that's how it's spelt over here!!) Day goal. I too have 8 weigh-ins, so I am going for a loss of 8lbs - if I lose anymore, I will dance naked in front of my PC for you all!!!!! By the way, what does Labour/Labor stand for as it is not a holiday I am familiar with.
My other goal is to exercise at least 3 times a week. I am doing good on getting in at least 2 litres of water every day and fruits are no problem, just slightly lacking on the veggie front.
Pyria - that's an ambitious goal, good luck to you, I wanted to try for about 1.5lbs a week, but it didn't work for me last time so I didn't want to tempt fate again!

I'm in, too. But I don't know what my goal is. How about, will continue to exercise and will stay OP 4 out of 7 days a week. I think that's all I can manage right now.

BFB - By the way it is Labour Day here too - it's nice to have someone online who at least spells like me!! Anyway, Labour Day is as the name says - a celebration for the workers and I think it's been around for about 100 years. It's just a break for those of us who "labour". Sorry you don't have the day off too!!
As for my goals - I'm still thinking about that so I'll keep you all posted,

I was browsing on the Britannica website (needed to know why Van Gogh cut off his ear) and decided to find out the definition of bank/public holidays. Found out that the UK has its own Labour Day which is May 1st. So I figure that if I am aiming for a true (to me) Labour Day goal, there is no way that I cannot lose 8lbs by May 1st 2002 :p

Well my goal for Labor Day (or Labour Day I work with a lot of Brits) is to maintain my sanity :D.
In the 8 ish weeks between now and then I'll be shopping for a house, packing, moving (I hope), and finising the plans for the wedding which is 19 days after Labor Day. So as much as I would like to loose 10lbs and get my 10% keychain (after a year of trying :^: ) I'm not making any commitments.

OK, here we go!!
I think I'm going to be bold here. I'm going to shoot for 8.6 lbs.!! That would put me another "decade" down!!
Starting Weight 7/4: 237.6
Goal Weight 9/5: 229.0
Since Wednesday is my normal WI day, and it's only 2 days after Labor Day, I'm going to stretch it 'til then...if nobody minds!! I have to be confident about this goal, it's lofty for me, that's 9 WI's for me, so I have to lose almost a pound at each WI. I don't want to get too cocky after doing soo well this past goal, but this is doable, I just have to be OP!!
So let's do it all!! :D

What is Labor Day?
Labor Day is a national legal holiday that is celebrated in United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This year it is being celebrated for the 103rd time. It is a holiday that honors all working people. It has also become a symbol of the end of summer, and time for kids to go back to school.
In Australia, Labor Day is called Eight Hour Day, and commemorates the successful struggle for a shorter working day. In Europe as well as Brazil, Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st.
History of Labor Day
Two different men have been credited for suggesting this holiday. One is Peter J. McGuire, a general secreatry of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co-founder of the American Federation of Labor. Other believe that it was Matthew maguire, a machinist, who founded the holiday.
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, by the Central Labor Union. They held the second annual Labor Day celebration the following year, also on September 5th.
In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected for this holiday, to celebrate a workers holiday.
The first state bill was introduced into the New York Legislature, but was to become law in Oregon first, on February 21, 1887. During this year, four more states followed. They were Massachusetts, Colorado, New Jersey and New York. By 1890, Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers. On June 28, 1894, Congres passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday, which was signed by President Grover Cleveland.
It's funny, it's not something I ever really thought about before!! It's always been, well, 2 days later, we go back to school - the end of summer!! And BBQ's and sales in the department stores!!

Labor day goal - 161.2

Sonya - thanks for the congrats on my loss. The lowest I have been since I started this weight loss thing is 165.5 - I will be so happy to be there again. And then I will hit virgin territory. It's been years! Sounds like you are doing great on the exercise! Keep up the good work!

Rabbit, you're doing so well! I'm getting ready to go on a little road trip with my mom and sister. We're going to Taos and hiking a couple of days. I am struggling so much with food! It's making me crazy. But I'm trying to exercise and figure out what it's going to take inside of me to change back to healthy eating. I can't wear any of my size 12 pants and so I've stuck them in a drawer but darn it, I want to be back in them again. Sigh. I'll check in when I get back. Keep going!

I'm going back to WW tonight. I skipped last week because we went to a concert. I've been doing very poorly in my food choices all of my old habits have come back to haunt me :( . I'm planning on starting over again :o, after WW I'm meeting a freind for dinner, but after that.... Actually we need to plan our meals and go grocery shopping again instead of just grabbing what I can find.

My first weigh in on this new goal is tomorrow. I should have a loss, but you never know. Sometimes the scale doesn't always catch up. Any loss is a good loss and I sure hope I get one!
Sonya - Have a blast on your trip! It sounds great! Sorry you are struggling with food - I sure know how that feels. The best thing I have done is to set myself up for success (and not for failure) by not keeping "bad" stuff in the house. You'll get back in those 12's again - hang in there!
Pryia - wow wow wow on the 4 pound loss!:D
Tech - good luck at weigh in! Starting over is what it's all about, don't you think? We all get knocked down (time and time again!) - what matters is that we get back up!

WI was good last night!! I lost 1.4 lbs.!! I'm very excited about that, because I really wasn't expecting a big loss!!

I did not get to weigh in on Thursday. I went to another town to weigh in at their walk-in times since I was leaving to go to my mom's. It took me forever to find the place - they had moved - and then they had changed their meetings so I was on the wrong day. I was quite bummed. My first weigh in then will be this coming week.

Okay I checked and I have 10.2 to meet my goal for Labor Day. Which is 6 weeks away. So I am really feeling good about making this happen for me. I really need to think of a reward for obtaining my goal. Something cheap though...cause school clothes happen at that time. Heck I will need new clothes. So I will buy myself something I love for work.

Not much posting, guess everyone's as busy as I am :D.
Went to WW on Tuesday and gained .4 :( . I really need to get back on track. We planned out our weekly meals and went shopping over the weekend, and I'm vowing to write down everything I eat this week even if I go over points (like yesterday).
I really need to learn to deal with stress without reaching for the chips and wine. I'm sure I'll work it out soon, at least I recognise the problem :^:

Tech - I also had a gain this week. I gained .8:( - we are headed in the wrong direction and must turn around.
All of my thoughts of being home for awhile so I could stay with it better flew out the window today. I am now at my sister's again (the queen of the junk food) because she had to go back into the hospital and I am watching the kids. I counted my points today even though I was over. Atleast I counted them!
Starting - 169.2
Present - 170
Goal - 161.2
8.8 pounds to go, 6 weeks.

I am new in town (so to speak). I need a good goal and this one sounds perfect. Mind if I join?
I started on 7/26 and my goal for labor day is 10 pounds. I don't think it's too lofty since I'm in the beginning stages, and I have a lot more to lose than the rest of the group (113 pounds). We hefties tend to lose the first 10 pretty quick (and you should see how quickly I can put it back on!)!
That gives me a goal of 4 lbs the first week and about 1-1.5lbs. each week following. If I stay on track I should actually lose 2 lbs. a week for a month or so.
Starting weight: 258
Labor Day goal weight: 248
Long range goal weight: 145

Up & Down - welcome welcome!:D I love your name - it so describes me (in weight loss efforts, that is). Good luck with your goal. My ultimate goal is the same as yours (I think). It sounds good anyway. My WW goal is 158. And I realized the other day that if I get my patoot moving in the right direction it is possible for me to get to that WW goal by my 40th birthday (9/30). That is definitely going to take some work. I am trying to keep that thought in my mind - AT ALL TIMES!
Today is the start of a new day. I'm going to count all of my points. I'm going to set myself up for success. I'm going to work the plan.

Rabbit your not talking to yourself, I'm just not replying :lol:.
Well on the goal front, my sanity is taking a turn for the better, I've decided not to stress about the house thing and just let what happens happen :D. This has taken a huge load off my neck and sholders (where I carry my stress).
On the weight front I lost a pound at WI on Tuesday, only a half pound more to get back where I was 2 months ago :o:.
Rabbit - Welcome back, and good luck with the staying OP. You've come a long way you can make it to the finish :D.
Up&down - Welcome!!!! I'm definately on the up and down cycle myself. Good luck with your goal :D.

How long has it taken you to lose this much and have you done it all with WW.
I was on WW last summer and was doing well. Went on a long vacation and got out of the habbit and, well here I am. I gained back all but 4 of the 25 lbs that I had lost!
This time I am hoping the extra encouragment from this site will help. I probably need to go back to meetings as well.
Good luck on meeting your goal by your birthday! I might meet mine by my 40th birthday--only 2 and 1/2 years to go!

well I am not doing at all well. up&down, hi, welcome and your name describes my weight loss efforts right now!!! I am stuck in a groove, but you know what - I am gonna get out of it. I haven't posted on my goals as I have not weighed in for about 3 weeks trying to loss the excess I know I have before going to weigh in. I am pleased to say that I went inlining today and I am gonna pick up on the excercise and water front again. And I am almost sure I can still meet my Labour Day goal if I STICK TO THE PROGRAMME!!!!!

I did great yesterday until dh brought me home some cashews. I don't know what possessed him to do that or what possessed me to eat them.
Tech - congrats on your loss!:) Glad you're letting go of the stress!
Up & Down - How long it took me is a sort of complicated question. Let's see. I started in Feb '99. I lost 19 pounds before joining WW. I lost 33 more pounds that year in WW. That makes 52. In 2000, I lost - and gained back - 13 pounds. I weighed the exact same the week after Christmas in '00 as I did in '99. I was rather bummed about that. And this year, as of my last weigh in anyway, I have lost 8.:^: The meetings help me - I feel more accountable if I have to go in and weigh. Thanks for the encouragement on the bday goal - it will be very hard for me to accomplish that - and cashews aren't going to do it.:s:
BFB - hooray for inlining! You have to feel good about doing that for yourself. Those ld goals are coming up fast. I've got to be tougher.

All I have to say is WOW! We all have a lot in common! I was so shocked to learn that everyone at this site is human and no one has all of the answers! I guess that is why this site is so helpful. Even when you slip up, others are there to encourage you . . . others that are facing the same struggles and challenges.

Hope you're all having a nice Sunday. Dh and I went to the rec. ctr. today because he did not have time for golf. I'm happy with myself for getting exercise in both days this weekend - got away from that when I was gone.
Also I was OP yesterday. Whew. I overate at my sister's and continued those habits for a few days when I got home. It was tough getting back with it. I know I will pay the price at weigh in this week, but am happy that I'm on my way again. I've been remembering to "talk" to myself and remind myself of my goals.:)
Up and Down - No, we sure don't have all the answers! We are all facing the same struggles as you said and it's so nice to be able to talk about it.
OK, I have a "mini" goal for myself for this week - to be op everyday. It's time to do this right.

Rabbit, this is my third day OP. I haven't exercised, but I am going to the gym in the morning. I've been drinking water like crazy, and trying to keep in the forefront of my mind how much better I feel about myself at a lower weight, and how the only way I'm going to get there is to think about what I'm doing. The family is having hamburgers tonight and I'm having a turkey burger with no bun. I'm regaining control. :)

Sonya - Super for you! Maybe you can keep me going also. I was only OP yesterday because of my exercise points - and I usually don't like to consider those. The family had hamburgers here last night also and I had a Boca Burger!:lol: Great minds think alike, I guess. I did have lite bread with mine though. And I had a salad. Glad you are regaining control.
Those cashews dh brought me last week and the cookies I made for ds are temptations I just can't afford at this time. Next time ds gets peanut butter cookies (I don't like pb). I don't want to rely on willpower - it just isn't always there.:(
OK, gotta go make my salad. I'm having some grilled turkey breast on it today - I think the protein fills me up for longer.

Sonya - Yesterday I was FINALLY under points. When I was wanting a snack in the evening though it was a darn good thing there was nothing "bad" in the house or I might have eaten it. Instead, I had light popcorn. And for my sweet craving, I had ff chocolate pudding. My snacking in the evening is a bad habit. :s: I will most likely have a gain this week at weigh in. When I got back last week from my trip I weighed at home and I wrote down how many pounds I have to lose to get to my WW goal and I'm crossing them off as I go along. That's helping my focus and should help me get through facing the scale at weigh in tomorrow. Keep the faith!
Welll, I bit the bullet and went back to WI last night. I was gone 2 wks., and I gained 1.8...and I deserved at least that much! It was a nice enlightenment though, so hopefully this will get me back on track. UGH, I'm up .4 from my starting weight for this goal...now I have 9 lbs. to lose in 5 wks! I will try, but that's 1.8 a week...it will require a lot of work!!

Back in town after being very, very bad at my inlaws! What was my labor day goal? Hopefully it was just a pound or two! Good thing is that my sister-in-law is in the same boat as me. As we sat stuffing our faces all weekend, we both agreed to get back on our WW plan. Her support and yours -- how can I fail?

I'm new to this website and am thrilled with this challenge. I started my new vision for my body August 1st. My plan includes attending weight watcher meetings, food journal, exercise and some weights. I would like to lose 15 pounds by Labor Day.
