Arrow Spinning...

How do you like it? I would like to start spinning on the weekends, I know it will be a challenge, but I think it will help me lose weight and get in better shape.

Spinning is quite demanding, but since you control the resistance on the bike you can make it easier or harder. If you haven't been biking lately, be prepared for excruciating butt pain, and some women find it hard on the naughty bits as well. Your hands and wrists may also be sore at first if you lean on them too much. But most problems disappear (or at least become quite bearable) after about 4 weeks. I've been going once a week for the past three winters, except when I injured my tailbone skiing (ouch!!!)... You'll need to take a water bottle, a towel, and bike shorts if you have them. Since I sweat a lot I also wear a head band.

Good luck, and I hope you'll enjoy! (I don't really know if I enjoy spinning, but there must be something in it since I keep going back. And the sense of accomplishment afterwards is terrific!)

Yes Spinning is very very very hard but when you're done you feel like the bionic woman (minus the butt and woman parts extruciating pain, especially if your butt is bigger to begin with) I HATE spinning with a passion, but it has done wonders for me. I lost 20 lbs in a month spinning 3 days a week for an hour and eating a 1400 calorie a day diet and I wasn't bottom or top heavy I was ALL OVER HEAVY now I am 170lbs and only 15 lbs from my goal to go to boot camp a strong and prepared young woman. But yes spinning is horrific and yet addictive. Try it you may be one of those few that actually love it either way it's great cause everyone is dying during spin class thin fat strong weak! GOOD LUCK!

I absolutely love spinning! It's a very hard and demanding workout, but so worth it. If you're going to go often I'd suggest getting a gel seat cover, you can get them in the bike section of any store for about $15. I eventually did get some spinning shoes, but that's only because I went 3 times a week, and I found having them made it easier to control my speed, and I felt my feet were more secure. Good luck and have fun!

I just started taking Spinning classes a few weeks ago and I love them. The other ladies are right about the butt pain...the next morning after your first class is a killer! But after a week or so I adapted and now feel just fine.

Definitely bring a towel in with you because you'll sweat! I would go to the class a few minutes early and tell the instructor that it's your first time, so she'll help you adjust the bike and show you the three positions.

One note--if you take one class and don't really dig it, try another one with a different instructor. The instructor in my first class was great, then I went to a couple other classes. One instructor I couldn't really understand, and the other was too mellow for my taste. I think that if I'd started with the mellow lady, I might never have gone back.

I suggest getting spinning padded shorts, as carla and swatton mentioned, it can be painfull on your butt and woman parts.. I remember the pain, and remember not being able to walk straight after my first class

I went tonight (and got a spot in the class, my gym is really busy) and I LOVED it! I felt like superwomen when I was done, however, I will be purchasing a bike seat! You were dead on about the bits and butt!
