Default Fish

I was reading a bit here today about seafood and I got to thinking ... I don't really pay much for fish. Not in comparison to nice lean beef or chicken breast. Almost everywhere I go, I can get Highliner Filets ... tilapia, salmon, cod ... for about $1.50 a serving. Just plain old, unadorned hunks of fish.
I did a little research and found that in the States they're marketed as Fisher Boy.
We get Cap'n Highliner and you get Fisher Boy
Might be worth hunting for. Buying fish at the deli type counter of our big grocers is waaaay more expensive!

I buy Fisher Boy fish at Walmart. I agree, their prices are really good. I regularly buy their tilapia and salmon.

I wish I were lucky enough to live near the coast. The "fresh" seafood department at the supermarket contains fish that comes in frozen, then they thaw it and put it out. So that's why I buy it frozen, then I can thaw when I'm ready to eat it.

However, a fish market recently opened in the area that is owned by a local sushi restaurant, and they fly to the coast 3 times a week for fresh seafood. They carry wild shrimp (instead of pellet fed farmed shrimp that we all usually eat) and I'm dying to try it. It's expensive, but I bet it will be worth it. We looked around last week and made note of the types of fish they carried. They had an interesting fish called escolar that looked very thick and dense, perfect for grilling. However, a quick search online and we learned that escolar is nicknamed the ex-lax fish, lol, so we don't want to try that

I buy fresh salmon since the taste is completely different from the frozen ones, it's pretty expensive though I live near the coast cause we don't have salmon in our waters! Otherwise I buy other fish and shrimp frozen/canned. Just got 2 lbs. of raw, frozen tiger shrimp. Yummi!
