Default OT - funny church sign

I was in south Dallas today and saw this on a church sign:

A Closed Mouth Get No Food

Not "Gets No Food..." I wrote it exactly as I saw it. So I started wondering. What does that mean and how would it apply to a church sign? I just don't get it.

I guess you could apply that to John 6:35, "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." So if your mouth/soul is closed to bread/Jesus, you would get no food/salvation??? Don't know where the bad grammar came from though. Maybe they ran out of "S's?"

Funny!

Good points! I thought it was a little strange with no reference.

I wouldn't have gotten the reference either, Kathy. However, bad grammar really bothers me. I would have noticed the sign for that reason too.

As a general rule I think church signs with messages like these are ridiculous. Sorry if anyone belongs to a church where you post messages like these. But coming from someone who works in the church, most of the time they are embarrassing, condemning, or confusing. Every one in awhile there is a good one, but not very often. I'm really not sure what is accomplished by preaching from a sign.
Sorry, this is a big pet peeve of mine.

Maybe it's a Southern thing, but Melissa ... I'm with you. I think it's taken beyond the limits of good taste at times. What's wrong with a simple "Join us at 11:00 for worship service" ??? I've seen things like "God ain't no slob" and it irritates me so much! Ugh!
