Here is something I found in my mailbox this am from The Daily Stretch. I knew there must be a good reason to eat hummus because it is definitely an acquired taste. Once I found a local source I have made it often. The recipe in the South Beach Diet book is excellent.
That hummus you had for lunch gets its creamy taste from tahini, a paste made from ground sesame seeds. Tahini is loaded with nutrition. Just 1 tablespoon has 1 1/2 grams of fiber and 12 percent of your daily calcium needs. Plus, it has flavor compounds that fight heart disease and cancer. Delicious and good for you!
You know what sounds good a piece of whole wheat flat bread with some hummus spread on it rolled up with some shredded cabbage, carrots, radishes, alfalfa sprouts, some chicken and a little sesame oil.....hmmmmm. Must add ingrediants to grocery list.
Um......Bibb lettuce is another name for it! It is a butterhead type. It looks like a loose head or iceberg lettuce. You could also use leaf lettuce.

I love hummus and have been making/eating it for years! I always put in a LOT more garlic and lemon juice and cumin that the recepie in the SB calls for though and you can make it with or without tahini. Its good to with spinach added in as well
Oh Ruth now Ellis will never catch up if you keep showin us all these good pics. hahahahaha I don't think I have ever seen that type of lettuce before. Iceburgh and Romaine are the only ones I ever see. Do you buy it at the reg. grocery store?
Gee, Bamie, it is almost always in our regular grocery stores in the cities. If you want it out here in the boonies, you have to grow it or drive into town. I'm sure they have it down there.
Hey Clovey that looks like one of the leafs in the Spring Mix I buy. I will have to go see if it has the names listed. That sure has a funny name. I just hope it does not make you feel like one. haha
Hey Skinnymini,
You should try growing your own garlic if you like it that much. Here, in CO, I plant it in the fall and harvest it in July. If you haven't tasted garlic except from the store you have a real treat instore for you. It is so Yummmmmmmmmmmmy
