:carrot: :welcome3: We are the Turtle Group here at www.3fatchicks.com. We welcome you to join us as we work toward good health and fitness in a persistent manner. As our inspiration, we use the race between the turtle and the hare where the turtle was the victor because he didn't give up. We believe in keepin' on by using the skills and techniques we have learned from experience to keep us on track. We believe in giving each other support. Good luck.

Thanks Judy for setting our new thread! Just in time to "spring forward" and recomitt to this.

Morning turtles - hope everyone is well and will start posting again. It has been too quiet for too long.

All - I "turtled" last week at Tops which was first time in awhile the scale wasn't up. Hopefully that was a turning point for me since my weight is up lots. Only exercise I have been getting is bowling once a week, which is definitely not enough.

Lets all have a good week!

Hi Bandit- your right I noticed the posts all but stopped after my last post. I was beginning to wonder if it was me ;)

I would like to get my weight back down atleast about 10 pounds. I started meds that aided in my gaining weight back. I do think my body seems to be comfortable at 164 but I do think I would like a little wiggle room.

Judy- Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for setting up the new post

Hi Turtles,
Oh Cherry, It certainly wasn't you!
I think we all got very busy and I have a feeling we didnt' have much of anything too good to talk about.

I'm ready to recommit. I too ended up on meds that are known to put on pounds, but I am off them now and determined to break 190# I am way up, but didn't hit 200#, so I have every reason to do the right thing.

Let's all encourage each other.

Bandit, it's great that you leveled off. :goodscale:
Cherry, even with the meds, you can do this! :goodvibes:
I'm determined to do well. :bravo:

Hi turtles:

Rainey but warmer up here, not complaining since it was truly a long cold winter.
Had a great weigh in this week, down 2.75# so was absolutely thrilled with that. Tomorrow will do some pre-cooking for the upcoming week. That helps having some "go to healthy" things on hand.
Judy/Cherry - thanks for chiming in when you can & hope you are getting back on track.

All- hope you are all doing well & will post when you can.

Okay Bandit, what a great week you had. Weigh to go! :goodscale: and :bravo: and :cheer: So happy for you.

Yes, I like it when I cook ahead and then have items that are easy to heat up and keep me on track. Right now I've got a veggie soup in the fridge that is a good standby in this in-between weather we've been having.

Ate out for dinner on Friday and a birthday celebration today for my son-in-law so i won't step on the scale until Monday morning when the salt, etc. has gone!!!! Wishing the best to all the turtles.

Hi turtles:

Judy - I made your veggie pie yesterday (yum) so that will be nice to have on hand this week, plus cooked extra chicken breasts.

Nice weekend - got lots done around the house.

All - have a nice week!

Hi Turtles,
I have to buy some BisQuick again since that veggie pie is great to have on hand for a quick lunch or a nice side with dinner. Getting the chicken breasts all cooked up will make your life easier this week. Weigh to go!

Have a great week, Turtles.

Hi everyone - so quiet here, everyone must be busy losing weight & exercising??? Well, not me. Still struggling with both.
Was down 1/4# last week at Tops which was nice instead of seeing the scale go up. We have our PRD coming up & that should be some motivation for me to see all the people across the province who have done well with weight loss plus it is a fun 2 night get away with the girls.

All- hope everyone is doing well & chime in when they can.

Hi Bandit and Turtles,
Just when I think this group will disband Bandit pops up. Thanks!
I'm facing a lot of crud right now and have been using food as a support.
Well, we all know how that goes. Had a pretty decent weekend, stopped the gain and have started the loss. A couple of girls in my WW group have used Simple Start with great success. i think WW's found a winner in this program this time.

Bandit, glad you stopped your gain and that you actually lost weight.
Weigh to go!

To everyone else, lots of luck and keep on keepin' on. We have done remarkably well over these years. It can be a struggle to lose weight and keep it off, but as long as we are trying we are winning!

Judy- Sorry to hear you are struggling. I think we have all had issues that make it hard to keep up the fight. Just keep on trying.

Bandit- Those loses are great. Keep up the good work.

I am working on getting back to a weight I am comfortable with. Though this may be were my body wants to be I can still always see places to improve my eating choices.

Hi turtles - last night I cooked up white fish with a salad & have enough fish for tonight as well. I also cooked up eggplant/zucchini/tomato casserole & will have throughout the week as a side dish. Planning ahead really helps me & I like to cook, so no excuses.
Just can't get myself into my walking routine - and that is ridiculous since walking makes my legs feel better and helps not feeling so tired.
So that is also what I will be working on.

Cherry/Judy - lets all have a great day & do one thing that will help us on our weight loss journey!

GReat post, Bandit. Today I planned my meals. I also headed to Trader Joe's and picked up loads of fresh produce and fruit. Great to have in the house. My dh picked up salads for dinner, so I switched my planned dinner to the easy one.

Keep posting girls. This helps a lot! I had a great day. Thinking about :exercise: and wanting to do something. Bandit, I remember that indoor track that you like. Are you thinking of doing that again?

Hi Judy - nice job planning your meals & nice hubby is also on board, that makes a huge difference.
Now that the weather is nice, I prefer to walk outdoors - since it is such a limited time up here we can do that. I am planning on getting back into walking at my trailer. Last year I was walking about 2 miles each time & mostly by the water which was great.

Having a good week, staying on track. Hope you all are as well.

Hi Turtles,
Thought for today:

Yesterday we said we'd do it tomorrow. Well "tomorrow" is here.
For breakfast I had 2 egg whites with a little ff cottage cheese, blueberries and cinnamon mixed in. I'm trying to get back on track and stay busy.
Both should help.

Have a great day. Onward and downward!

Hi turtles

Glad to see some postings.
I went to Tops PRD last weekend & was truly inspirational, awesome to see
so many who have done so well. Nice motivation to get back on track & made a pact with ladies I went with to: Walk at least 5 miles/week & lose 10# by end of Aug. So should be totally doable.
Nutritional speaker at convention & gave us a few tips, one of which was to
have between 20 & 40 grams of protein at breakfast & to eat within 1 hour of waking. I find this has kept me full until noon, no problem.
Got in a walk Mon at noon but yesterday was raining, so didn't get out.

All - hope you are all doing well & chime in when you can.

Remember - baby steps & drink your water!

Hi turtles and especially; Bandit.
I had lost almost 50# at one point with WW's. I used Jenny Craig to get to that lowest point. Lots has happened in my life since then and I find myself having regained about 18#. I came thru a tough time (before it I had eaten lots of comfort foods.) i'm fine, but the comfort foods are sticking to me much harder than ever before. I am using Simple Start. I see that it allows bigger meals than I had been eating (but with my "technique" I'd get hungry and grab pretty much anything...............as you can see that didn't work). So here's my food for today:
banana
2 egg whites and 1 slice ff cheese
small cup of split pea soup and 1/2 tuna sandwich
chicken grilled, small sweet potato and veggies
snack: orange and a ff sf pudding

I'll let you know how I do, but I really don't like this excess weight. i want to feel successful.
We can do this!

Hi. Thought I would jump in. I just started weight watchers. It seems fine, other than I am always hungry. But I am heavier that ever and I have to do something. I am also looking into Weight Loss surgery, but that's a process and I can't just do nothing until then.
I find getting enough protein really hard to do, without adding lots of fat. Of course I don't eat just the egg whites. But the egg yolk is the best part. Sigh. Dieting is not much fun, but neither is being this weight.

Itryharder
06-22-2014, 01:50 PM
HI Turtles,
Seana, a small group of us found that posting here has helped us. When we are feeling really strong we give support. When we need help we gain support from the others.
Nothing about weight loss is fun, but you can do it. Post here. Let us know how you're doing. I see nothing wrong with a whole egg. If I want a bit more to eat than that, I'll add an egg white to a whole egg and that helps boost the protein.

Lean protein, 95% ff beef, chicken breast, turkey breast, fish (fresh or canned like tuna in water), beans. Let us know what you like to eat and we'll help you out. Then you can give us tips and we'll all learn from each other.
Good luck!

Thanks Judy. Went to the movies late last night and wanted movie popcorn so bad. Didn't have any. We are going again today...but I have mixed feelings. I want to go, because it's the Godfather on the big screen and believe it or not, I've never seen it. We'll bike there (about a mile) but I think it's going to be challenging in terms of food. Will probably have to eat something right before. Also, I wonder how people who aren't the cooks do this. My husband likes to cook when he's not working, but his calorie needs are so different from my needs. And we really struggle with this. Honestly some of my weight is because I just quit fighting with him. It's too exhausting.

Morning turtles:

Nice to postings & welcome Seana!

Weekend was good - stayed on track pretty good & got in a walk around the trailer park, which was nice.

I find the only way to stay focussed is to plan ahead & have pre-cooked meats on hand. When I cook dinner, I like to put extra in oven for lunches.
Then have some protein with my salad. Today I have green salad with cheese & chicen breast.

Have a good week

Hi turtles,
Bandit, good tips.
Seana , as far as movies, I bring a snack with me and I buy a giant Diet Coke at the theater. that fills me in. The more you practice this, the better you get at it. Bicycling to the movie is great exercise!

I do all the cooking here. Interesting what you say about your husband having different calorie needs than yours. There must be millions of us who gained weight because we thought we could eat like our husbands. We all found out we couldn't! How about having lean proteins on hand (a grocery store rotisserie chicken, etc) for those nights when his meals are waaaaay
too many calories? I know as you think this thru that you'll get the swing of this and lose weight. Good luck! i see you're in the mood for something different.

Bandit, glad you got a walk in. I plan to mow the lawn later tonight and then I'm off to baby sit my grandson.

Have a great week.

Stayed on track most of the time but did have some drinks & snacks as well. Hoping maybe to be down abit tomorrow.

I ended up winning the PRD challenge us ladies set with a 8# loss.
Didn't make the 10# but still the challenge gave me extra focus.
I went camping 2 weeks ago (in tents) and that was fun but not as comfy
as my trailer. Food was a challenge but had a good time.
We are heading into another long weekend & can't believe summer is winding down. Weather wise was not the best summer but not complaining since before long the snow & freezing rain will be back.

Yes, we have a long weekend coming up. I'll be going to my great niece's Sweet Sixteen party. Lots of company this summer. It flew by. Best wishes to all the turtles.

Bandit, so glad you keep on writing. I'm doing the best I can under some pretty tough circumstances. One thing that was fun was my dh and I took our kids and grandkids to Hershey Park for a few days. It was good to have the kids together for an enjoyable time. Walking so much kept my weight in check. Now that the fall is coming, my dh and I plan to walk the boardwalk again. It's one and one half miles and so pleasant at the water.

Best of all wishes for all the Turtles who check in once in awhile. Write a line or two to let us know how you're doing.

Best luck!

We had ribfest here last weekend which was delicious & of course, too much food. Made a zucchini pie recipe which turned out good as well.

For the Fall Challenge which will run from today to October 31st. let's see how much weight we can lose.

These are my aims:
1. Exercise 3X/week
2. Use Simple Start foods for best weight loss
3. Aim to lose 6# in this time frame.

What are your goals? Let's do this!!!!

Hi Judy - your list looks good.

My aims are:
1. Exercise 2x/week plus at least one big walk at night.
2. Get back to Somersize basics (and still count my ww points)
3. Lose 6 lbs within the 6 week mark (sounds doable)
4. Keep this list handy for me to see!

All - I hope you all join us in our Fall Challenge.

When we are struggling we need to know we are not alone & inspire each other!

Join in no matter where you are. We'd love to hear from you!

Bandit, love your goals. For some reason I keep on ignoring all I know about weight loss and continue to gain weight. Knowing you'll do this until Halloween for our first fall challenge is a huge help. Today has been really good and right now I've got a chicken/pineapple/soy sauce dish simmering away. I'm making quinoa with it since it's on Simple Start. It should be good. I will postpone eating it until six o'clock so I won't be too hungry later in the evening.

Good luck to everyone. Chime in when you can.

Morning turtles:

Past weekend I was camping (yes, in a tent) with a group of 12. So good times & didn't do too bad foodwise. Got in a huge walk Sat afternoon & didn't go overboard with snacks/drinks. So overall pretty good.

Weather is starting to cool down up here but we still have times when it is quite hot (both weekend afternoons were gorgeous) Almost time to shut down my trailer for the season.

Having a craving for some chili, so tonight after bowling I am planning on making a big pot of that to have on hand for this week. Looking forward to that.

All - hope you had a great weekend!

Hi Turtles,
I did a turnaround. I am doing Simple Start and that's working out pretty well. On days where I see I'll be out and probably dining out, I go back to points plus. Using both seems to work and I've knocked off those top two pounds. :bravo: The hardest part, to state the obvious, is to keep going.

Good to hear from you , Bandit, and the fun you had camping. Weigh to go!

Judy - good for you for dropping those lbs!

Going to movies tonight, so that should be fun. I like to have popcorn of course but will have some chili before going & then will be content with a small bag.
This week they are saying it will be sunny all week, so really looking forward to being outside when I can be. I need to start packing up the trailer & my yard at home always needs work, so planning on lots of yardwork this weekend.

Hi Turtles,
Bandit, so good hearing from you. Enjoy your time at the trailer and at home. All that work really is good exercise and keeps us from eating at the same time!!

I don't know why it's clicking now, but the Simple Start is very doable for me. When I "slip" I count it in as my points plus for the day and keep on going..............being very careful with what else I eat that day. It seems to be working. I'll weigh myself again soon.

Bandit, I'm so glad you're doing this. We've been Internet buddies for so long and I know we can each get to goal. We both are aiming for about the same weight and it would be great to do that this year!!! Good luck.

Hi ladies

Welcome back, Cherry! Hopefully Judy can explain the Simple Start, I have no idea what that is about. I no longer go to WW but still follow the Points Plus programme. For support (other than here) I go to Tops which I like.

Nice to see you back with us. This board has been quiet for too long.

I just printed out a pear/cranberry crisp recipe which I want to try and for a small portion shouldn't be too high in points.

Judy - hope you are staying on track this week.

All - chime in when you can, love to hear from everyone!

Itryharder
10-01-2014, 06:54 PM
Hi Cherry, I was hoping you'd chime in.

Simple Start:
It's very much like the old Core program.................it uses power foods such as lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and even lite bread to get you thru the day. FF dairy, few processed foods.

Stay strict with these above foods. don't worry about points plus. Eat only when you're hungry. You can use up to 6 points plus a day outside of the more limited foods.

Honestly it's not that bad. I'll have lite toast and an egg or egg whites for breakfast or even a bowl of oatmeal
Lunch: lean protein...........chicken strips in a salad or shrimp in a salad
or even ff cheese melted on a lite bread and that good old WW soup recipe

for dinner: Whole Wheat pasta and tomato sauce and ff parmesan cheese sprinkled
or 93% lean beef made into a meatloaf with oatmeal for the carb. serve with green veggies

snacks..............fruit and veggies.............even a baked potato topped with ff sour cream and stuffed with brocolli

I hope this helps. You definitely want to keep that beautiful weight loss off!!!

Bandit, good to hear from you. Food here is good. I do slip now and then but overall doing nicely. Keeping that 10/31 WI in mind to be down a nice amt. of weight.

Glad you're still going to TOPS. You do well with that.

Good luck.
Also hi to Princess and our friend who's working in a nursing home.

Hello Turtles!

I have been MIA for far too long and think about you all very often! I hope that everyone is well and that your journey to better health is going great!

I am still going to TOPS and WW but my overall weight loss seems to have become stagnant with me gaining and loosing the same 5 pounds over and over again. I am still cycling 3 days a week and increasing that to 4 times a week in hopes that it will help. WW had a sale on the "Active Link" so I grabbed one of those last week and started the assessment phase which I just completed on Friday and yesterday started the first official week for that, we will see how it goes.

I am fully recovered from my spinal surgery but still having pain which no one seems to know where it is coming from, I have determined that I am just either getting older and that is my body reinforcing that or I am just a big wimp - or a combination of the two ;)

So enough about me... what is going on with everyone?

Bandit: How is it going at your TOPS chapter these days? we had elections and I agreed to be the co-leader to make myself attend every week instead of just from time to time like I had been doing... Hard to believe that it is October already and the cold weather is coming, it got very cold here over the weekend which was very untimely since we had a cook out here yesterday with my husband family...

Judy: Hey Judy, how are you doing these days? I have not chatted with you in ages and hope that you are well and keeping busy. ;) Are you still attending meetings at your local WW with your pals? ;) Halloween is coming soon, are you and your family doing the annual party this year?

Cherry: Hope you and your family are well, how have you been?

As far as me, I have stopped WW meetings for awhile since I wasn't getting anywhere with them. I did have 3 of my WW pals in for a simple lunch last week. I had DVR'd a Rachael Ray program with the trainer from Biggest Loser. The whole audience each had over 50# to lose and had committed to doing so this upcoming year. There were good points and my friends had missed the program, so we had salad and angelfood cake and watched the show. All very nice.

Personally, I've been helping my dd out. She is back at work, so I help out with getting the kids on and off the bus, etc. I've been busy and staying OP hasn't worked out so well. I get on a roll, and then slide off. So, my weight is up and then I go back and forth dropping and regaining the same pounds.
this week can be better, especially if I add back exercise! We are having our annual Halloween party. I do look forward to it and a lot of laughs. Taking an easy way out as far as a costume this year. I've got a tee shirt that says, "If the broom fits, ride it" and the most fabulous witch's hat ever! It should be fun.

So glad to hear from you all.
Cherry, it's hard to explain Simple Start except to say that you only eat when you are hungry and you eat enough to be satisfied.............not stuffed.
The foods are very close to Core and if you do that, I think you'll lose weight.

Good luck to all of us.
Still hoping to lose 6# by Halloween!!!

Hi turtles

Nice to see Princess back with us again! Been away too long.

Cherry - hope you understand Judy's programme, it sounds like it would be fairly easy to follow & still use real food which I like. I hate when you have to buy so many different things on some of these plans. Good luck.

Princess - that is great you are still cycling, that has got to be very effective for exercise and so glad you have recovered from your injury.

Judy - always nice to see you chiming in.

As for myself, busy weekend up here & got most of my trailer cleaned out which is nice to be done with that. My gf came up for a sleepover and we went for mani/pedis & then went out for dinner then back to trailer for drinks & chats. So really nice evening. We are planning a trip in Nov to Dominican so looking forward to that.

All - keep posting when you can. And welcome back Princess & Cherry!

Lets have a great week!

Hello Everyone and Happy Wednesday to you All!

Finally a break in the rain here but it is for today only they say... cool and rainy weather for the rest of the week so I will enjoy today! I am going to lunch with an old co-worker so that will be fun.

Judy: I totally understand about taking a break from a plan for a while, it makes sense when you have been doing something for as long as we all have been doing this :dizzy: It is so nice of you to help out your DD - I am sure she really appreciates your help and your time!

Bandit: Glad you got the trailor all taken care of, I know that is a chore for you each year, and the Dominican Vacation sounds wonderful!

Have to run - have a great day all.

I picked up the Active Link a couple of weeks ago when WW had a sale on them, still trying to get used to it but I will let you all know how it goes.

Good hearing from you guys.
All of a sudden and just like that I'm back OP. I have to remember that even when things get tough and I slip, that baby steps gets us back.

Running around right now, but I'll start a new thread soon.
Best to everyone.

Glad you are back on track Judy, I think we become overwhelmed at times or get bored but as long as we get back on it then we are still heading the right direction.

Just a quick check in to see how everyone is doing - I had a good weigh in on Saturday, was down 2 lbs so that was great but overate over the weekend... don't know why I do that!

Have a great day all!

Princess, I think that's something we all do..................well and then sabotage. It's weird and if we ever figure it out, we'll be at goal.
I'm very glad that you lost 2# and overeating over the weekend can be stopped and balanced out.

I've had good and not so good days, but at least I've stopped the gain.

Wishing all the turtles the best.
