Default Protein Shakes

Hi All,

I'm looking for information on protein shakes. Due to my work schedule I often can't get to the gym 'till about 7pm which means I get home for 9 which then means I either eat dinner right before bed or I have nothing... so I'm thinking a good protein shake would be the perfect after work out meal when I'm tight for time.

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for brands or how much protein to look for per serving? Also wondering if anyone knows anything about Vega?? Apparently it's vegetarian/vega friendly (not that I am a vegan but if given the choice I might prefer a vegan blend).

Thanks!

I always drink a protein shake after my workouts. I have tried many kinds, but not the Vega you mention. I am not vegetarian/vegan, but the one I am currently drinking is a soy shake, as I have absolutely hated all of the whey shakes I have tried. It is just the EAS soy powder I am using now. I have tried vanilla and chocolate, and both are miles better than whey. I can drink it without gagging. Soy is also supposed to be high in glutamate, too, which helps with muscle recovery. I will likely go back to trying some other kinds of whey, but until then I am pretty happy with the EAS. There are lots of options for vegans- hemp, soy, brown rice, pea, etcetera. At least some of these have to taste good. In contrast, most whey is absolutely revolting. Adding protein shakes makes me really full, too, so that's a bonus. Sorry for rambling.

I like Isoflex. I do not use it often because I like to eat real food. But if I need something and I am in a pinch, I mix some up.

It's $$. But does the business.

CorePower premixed chocolate... it's all real ingredients (no weird things) and tastes pretty good. I've been grabbing it for breakfast and as a post-exercise supplement. Also a little pricey, but very worth it IMHO.

I have recently been doing a smoothie that is great. Not protein powder though:

Makes 2 servings

1 1/4 frozen strawberries
3/4 frozen peaches
2tsp. vanilla
1 cup skim milk
1 cup plain ff greek yogurt
stevia to taste if you want sweeter.

Put everything in blender and blend.

It's delicious and not to hard on the wallet. I buy big bags of frozen fruit at B.J's or Costco. You can also put mango or any other fruit you want to substitute just use same amount or fruit.

My husband and I like it for our late lunch or afternoon snack then have a lite supper..

200 calories a drink.
