So, I have been hovering around the low 170's/high 160's for about three weeks. I may have made a mistake in trying to save money and buying some alternative products (quest bars and tetra packs of chocaolate ready-made).
I am concerned becuase this is the weight I was at for a VERY long time, and I'm wondering if my body thinks this is "normal". I really like the taste and price of the quest bars, but perhaps my body doesn't? I don't know, but I may just give the box I bought to my husband and stick with IP products.
Zephyr, alternative always screw with my progress. Not sure why, but its the fact for me. Also - I was not loosing for the past two weeks. This morning's WI showed 3 lb loss.
I would 1) get rid of alternatives (at least to get through plateau) 2) not using restricteds; 3) replace one higher sugar/ carb unrestricted with IP drink mix (Pina colada, orange).
If this will not help, add 15 min walk
I have seen my own body pause at certain weight levels. I recently had a devil of a time getting through 270 pounds (an old resistance support level). I took me almost 2.5 weeks to punch through. I do wonder if there are certain "weight comfort (on the downside) or discomfort (on the upside) levels" for our bodies. For me when I hit these "zones" I sometimes bounce off or my weight just goes into a plateau.

I've also noticed that quest bars slow down my losses. I'm jealous of people that can eat them every day and still lose. I really like them. So I do still have them on occasion, but mostly stick away from them.

I should note that I stick to the Choc/PB and Staw/Cheesecake bars as they seem to be the closest to IP. I do have a cinnamon roll one every once in a while, but yes, they tend to slow down my losses.
Quest bars have proved to slow my process also. I've gone the whole way (well, except for the first 6 weeks) on alternatives and have managed almost make it to goal. I have one or two pounds to go.
Previous set points are typically difficult to break thru. There is no magic in IP foods vs alts, however you didn't mention how you are using quest (restricted-only, would be my suggestion). You also didn't mention WHICH chocolate ready made . Can't give insight to the impact from that. Some are better than others.
Are you getting all veggies, oil, salt, water? Eating a daily salad?
A true plateau would be closer to a long-frustrating MONTH with zero change in weight or measurements

I developed thyroid problems several months into p1.
My signature indicates I'm on P4, giving my thyroid/metabolism a break from p1. I'll return to p1 in January. So for now, I am purposely not losing weight. Thanks for asking.
I have used alternatives since about the 8 week mark. I had lower losses some weeks while on IP products, and even a gain, as well as higher losses. The same goes for my losses while using alts. As Lisa said, there is no magic in IP vs alts. It is possible to select higher carb/fat alts and the same goes for IP. I would look at limiting higher carb items first. Some of us are extremely carb sensitive. For me, varying what I ate seemed to work well. I never developed a taste for the Quest bars. Most of my products were from Nashua Nutrition or Diet Direct.
I have been using the Quest bars as a restricted, and I've not had them every day. I'm getting my veggies, salt, et al.
The Quest bars I have tried so far are:
Chocolate Chunk
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Chocolate Brownie
Cinnamon Roll
This morning, it appears I am down a couple pounds - hoping this continues!
Are the bars I listed "compatible" with the IP program? They are so much more filling and I like the lack of soy. However, I really want to get this weight off and be as healthy as possible!
