Default Has anyone gained weight due to starting a new or more intense exercise regimen?

I have been reading about this online due to my own frustration, having busted my butt this week and gained a pound.
Just curious if anyone has experienced this? If so, when did the scale finally show your progress?

1-2lbs of water weight gain due to retaining water in sore muscles wouldn't be out of line for starting a new exercise regimen. Are your muscles sore? For me, that's a good indication that they're retaining water. Much more than a couple of lbs and, for me, it's due to overcompensating for the extra workout with extra calories.

Whenever I've up'd my intensity in the past I've noticed I stop loosing for a while, and then eventually start loosing at a slower pace

I guess I am sore, but not in the way I remember when I was younger. I feel like an old lady, if that makes sense. Ha! Like my joints and overall body, more than a specific muscle.
And I'm tracking my calories on MyFitnessPal and should supposedly be losing a good bit of weight, but this is the highest I've been in a month. I'm also getting a cold which I know lends itself to water retention.

Yes, I just started exercising for the first time and i gained a solid five pounds without upping my calorie intake. After 10 days, I've finally lost the last of it, and I'm looking forward to seeing a decrease on the scale for a change.

I can gain a pound or 3 pounds overnight for what seems like no reason - salty foods, eating late, upping my workout, taking meds, flying, traveling, eating different foods and then hormones.

If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, eventually the weight will come off. When I read "weight gain" I was expecting to read something like a 5-10 pound gain, but a one pound gain? That could be from anything and it's normal.

If I worry about gaining ONE pound... Than I'm setting myself up for some serious disappointment... being that neurotic just doesn't work for me anymore...

I didn't gain but i didn't lose either. It is super frustrating climbing on and off that scale knowing you have worked your butt off and no change in numbers. Especially when you have been losing just by counting calories!

I got a measuring tape. I could tell after 2 weeks of working out that my body was changing. I don't plan to measure for a while yet but i pulled out a pair of pants that were a size smaller and they have a little give now, a month ago i couldn't even fasten them.

My point is, don't concentrate too much on the scale. I am slowly realizing that it's a great tool but so is my intuition and my intuition tells me i am changing my body, i can walk further, faster without wanting to pass out and carrying my son around isn't a chore lately.

Keep at it!

I totally agree with KW9! If you are starting exercising while continuing to eat well, don't worry about the scale at all. You may not notice a difference on the scale but you will for sure in your clothes!!
