Default OT--Profanity in Workplace

I know this is way off topic, but I am becoming increasingly alarmed, dismayed, and upset about the use of profanity in the workplace. My parents did not raise me to use such language and I find it offensive.

I used to hear it at the office on occasion, but now it seems to be the norm and not only when people are angry. What is even more disconcerting is that women are using awful language.

What is happening? I feel so uncomfortable at work. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for reading my rants.

Domina: Rant whenever you feel the need.

I must confess, your note about profanity in the workplace really struck a chord with me - not because of the actions of those around me but because of my own.

I think office etiquette has changed quite a bit over the past few years. Casual Fridays have turned into casual weeks in many cases, and many businesses/operations have taken a generally more relaxed attitude toward the workplace. That doesn't mean that it's OK to lose professionalism, however, and I think that's the gist of your point.

Thanks for calling me on it.

You must be hearing me at my ultra-frustrating job. I'll pipe down...

i'll admit to having a potty mouth. However, I spend an inordinate amount of time with several irritating software packages and have some strong feelings about them.

Between that and the war coverage, I'll admit that I need help.

As for casual fridays, I work in a research environment. My dearest office mate is wearing his flip flops today. Need I say more?
