Post Loose Skin

I have been looking for a thread on this. I could not find one so here goes. I lost a large amount of weight in the past and had lose skin. I am 46 years old and have a lot to lose again. No matter how much I exercise or lose sensibly I will have loose skin, that is life. I want to know if anyone has had surgery to deal with this or if not how do you handle it? Thanks.

Hi plucky,

I know you are looking for people who have had skin surgery, which I have not, but I have wondered about it. I am also 46 (wonderful age isn't it? Not!!) and after losing my weight, I am bothered by my stomach. I started researching skin surgeries, and from what I've learned, the term "tummy tuck" is really a misnomer. It makes it sound cute, and like it's just a little tuck, but it can be pretty major. The scar for it is low, like bikini low, but it is huge. And if you've ever seen Extreme Makeover Weight loss edition, or My 600 lb Life, you will see how major a surgery it is. I've seen people who have a lower body surgery, then later an upper body, even arms. Those scars can't be covered. But some of those people were so huge that the remaining skin was actually a real detriment, and not just a cosmetic problem. I've watched The Biggest Loser over the years, and some of the women are able to not have as much lose skin as you might think. But they are younger than we are I guess... Danny, a winner a few seasons ago, had the chest and abdominal surgery because a doc somewhere offered it to him. I guess that makes the decision easier, huh? If it's all paid for?

So I'm not really being much help, but I wanted to let you know I saw your post and to congratulate you on getting started!! I definitely would recommend not letting the skin thing dissuade you from continuing on your journey. Even if in the end you do have some loose skin, you will be SOOO much healthier and feel SOOO much better!!!
