Default My 1st 5k

I did my first 5k today! I ran the 1st mile and half, then had to walk part of the second mile (bad knee) and started running again in the 3rd - and finished running. It took me forever because I'm slow and because of the walking (53 minutes) but I am so freaking excited to have finished - and to have almost run it
My family is all runners and I've always been the fat sister/daughter/wife on the sidelines, so I just felt so good to be in it. Totally self-conscious at the beginning (looking around wondering if I was the fattest runner there, watching children, old people and dogs etc run past me...), but I feel so good about this! I have no idea what I'm weighing these days since my scale broke, but am going to the doctor tomorrow and will find out... and then buy a new scale.

Fantastic! I admire this because I don't run. Never have, probably never will.

I am participating in a 5K next weekend with a group from my gym. For the benefit of the Girl Scouts. Can't believe I signed up because (read this carefully) I DO NOT RUN! We'll see how it goes. When I was on vacation a few weeks ago and away from the gym, I measured a loop around our rented cottages that was 1.5 miles. It took me 25 minutes to walk it, so I figure I can do this in an hour if I have to walk the whole way. We'll see how it goes, but I DO NOT think I'll get addicted to running! LOL I just don't want to embarrass myself.

Be proud of what you did! It's a great accomplishment.

Congrats. My son is a runner, and I told him I want to be able to run a 5k with him this spring. I went out for my walk today and actually ran a small portion of it. Im with you, when I say I am not a runner, but I figured this is a good goal to set plus I have him to train with. Keep up the great work. You will be running the whole thing next time.

congrats, that's amazing!!!!

I will never be a runner (hip surgery to remove a tumor means I'm permanently banned from high impact stuff), so I've incredibly impressed by those who can. And now that's you - YOU ARE A RUNNER! (and the small walking part in the middle does not change that)

Fantastic job freefall. I did my first 10k walk on July 2nd weighing in at 258 pounds I did it in 2:59:26 so under, but just barely 3 hours but I did it and it felt great, well that is until after a few days I realised i did some damage to my hamstring. I pulled the inside tendon at my knee joint. Got too excited and started to run at about the 8km mark. But I have to say I would likely have not changed a thing. Other than the brith of my children, it was likely the most exciting and proudest moment of my life! Keep going girl, but be careful because you dont want to be set back from training like me for the next 2 or 3 months. Thinking about doing the AIDS walk next week and then a 5k in October. Take care everyone!

Good Job! That is so exciting!

I did my first 5k yesterday. I need a total knee replacement so I am forbidden to run. I looked with longing at the girls running the course. But, even walking I completed in a good time and it was so empowering. I highly recommend it.

Inspiring!!! I've been starting to train for a 5k. I'm a long way off, but my goal is to do it before my birthday this April. My partner is also away for 16 weeks (with three weeks home at Christmas) so I'm hoping that as soon as he's home for good, he can watch me do it.

I'm very proud of you for doing it. For starting AND finishing it. I think you're amazing!!!

Thank you for sharing,

-Kiki
