Talking low calorie soup or chili recipes??

ok i love tomato soup, loaded potato soup and chili.
i want to find lower calorie recipes that my whole family will eat.

I'm not restricting anything yet except salt and sugar.

i tried healthy choice tomato soup, but it was nasty imo. tasted like ketchup mixed with water lol.

i want to make a cheesy potato soup this week since its been so cold, but i can't figure out the calories. anyone have a good potato soup recipe or know how i can figure the calories so i can make changes to my recipe?

any other soup recipes would be great too, I'm willing to try new things

thanks!

I've made a few of the soups here http://www.skinnytaste.com/ and they've all been delicious.

bet you could make awesome potato soup with lowfat chicken broth and laughing cow cheese wedges........haven't done it with potatos, but is is excellent with broccolli.
also bet you could do this with canned diced italian seasoned tomatos and laughing cow cheese as well, i think i would add a little splenda to it though.
don't know why but potato soup ALWAYS gives me heartburn, but i will try it out with tomatos and let you know how it works out

only thing is, i don't know about the salt? how strict is your salt intake?

I second the skinny taste site.

I make my chili this way:

1 lb ground beef (you can do ground turkey, too. Sometimes I do a pound of beef and a half pound of turkey)

1 large can tomato sauce

2 cans chili beans

2 packets chili seasoning

1 can diced tomatoes with onions and garlic

Brown the ground beef and through all the ingredients into a crockpot on low for 8-10 hours. It's about 400ish (I'm sorry, I can't remember) for 6 *really* big bowls.

I also LOVE this recipe:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/e...ipe/index.html

I stop at the lime juice, don't make the chips with the oil or the crema. It's *really* good and not too bad, even when served with a few tortilla chips, avocado, and a dollop of sour cream.

Seriously amazing and so healthy. I use the 7 bean and barley mix from Sprouts & dry beans also from Sprouts. You get a ton for cheap

Ingredients

* 7 cups fat free, less-sodium chicken broth (I use the dried cubes)
* 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
* 6 garlic cloves, crushed
* 2 (4-inch) rosemary sprigs
* 1 (19-ounce) dark red kidney beans
* 2 teaspoons olive oil
* 1 cup chopped onion
* 1 cup finely chopped carrot
* 1/4 cup chopped celery
* 1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained (I get the kind with the spices)
* 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking barley (if not using the 7 bean mix)
* 10 cup torn spinach leaves (about 4 ounces)
* 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Preparation

Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low, and
cook 15 minutes. discard Rosemary leaves.

Measure 1 cup beans, and mash with a fork in a small bow or put in
food processor. Reserve the remaining whole beans.

Heat oil in pan over medium heat. Add onions, carrot, and celery; cook
4 minutes. Add broth mixture, mashed beans, whole beans, tomatoes, and
barley; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes. Stir in
spinach and black pepper; cook 5 minutes or until barley is tender.
Sprinkle each serving with cheese.

I make the "Delicious Ham and Potato" soup from Allrecipes.com and it's awesome. My family loves it and it's about 250 calories a bowl. You could probably knock more off by using skim milk instead of 2 % and I add more potatoes than it calls for. There's no cheese in it but my kids sprinkle cheddar in their bowls. I like it without. I do substitute "chicken base" instead of broth because I like the flavor a whole lot better. It's a yummy soup.

I use this recipe often. I leave out the pasta, cheese and bread and then blend the cooked soup in my blender and it makes a nice creamy soup for few calories. I also use black beans instead of what is called for here as black beans are lower calorie.

Not sure if it will still be too much sodium, but I make all my recipes with the low sodium versions, and I get the fat free (lower sodium) chicken broth.

(Made this soup tonight!) I don't know if you like Asian style Hot and Sour soup but this recipe from weight watchers is seriously delicious and supppper easy to make. I add a little more chili paste for heat, yum! The Rice Vinegar is key to giving the sour flavor. We make this recipe over and over, so if you like Hot and Sour soup it might be worth it to buy a bottle of Rice Vinegar (just a couple bucks) and Sriracha (Asian hot sauce) - you will use them again and again for this easy soup! Plus I find a million things to put the Sriracha in.

Also, if you have heard of, or like, those Miracle Noodles, the Shirataki noodles, they would be awesome in this.
