However, with me now being back in the REAL WORLD, I simply don't have the time.

That above sentence kinda scared me.
*This* is the real world if you ask me. Every day life. That's the reality.
And yes, it does take time - initially, learning the calorie counts. Once you get it down pat, it's simple. But like anything new and unknown, it takes some time to become accustomed with it.
But once you know the calorie counts, this lifestyle STILL takes up time. I cook most of my foods. I eat an enormous amount of veggies, which takes time to prepare. I eat lots of low fat proteins which takes time. It takes time to plan for these things, purchase these things, cook these things and then clean up the mess.
You must come to realize that this is worthy of each and every second you spend on it. You must MAKE the time for it. Really, what could be a better use of time, then the time spent getting healthy and remaining healthy?
This has to be a tippy, tippy, tippy top priority. It can't be something done only when convenient; only when circumstances permit. Eating healthy won't happen on it's own. It takes pre-thought and planning and TIME.
This has to be such a priority in your life, that to not spend time on it would be ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.
You spoke of it not being a way of life - yet. That's to be expected. You're used to doing things the old way. It DOES take time to get these new good habits ingrained in you. But they will. They will. At that point it will be automatic to you and habitual. It will be just what you do without giving it *much* thought. The idea is to create a new normal.
You'll have to push yourself though. You'll have to require more from yourself. You'll have to raise your standards. It's a wonderful time of self growth and discovery.
As far as that planning goes, you'll have to do it every single day. Not just till mid-week. That has been one of my major keys to success - planning. Much easier to stay on plan when you've got one.
As far as counting calories, you will learn what chicken is, fish is, etc. You'll learn about the counts of different veggies and so on and so forth.
For me this is quite easy now. My breakfast is always the same. My lunches, I switch off between a few different lunches with all the same calorie counts. Dinners? I switch those around too, all of them having almost identical counts. Snacks? Ditto.
But that didn't happen overnight. It took a bit till I got to that point. But you must recognize that it's worthy of every second that it takes.
