Default First Whoosh! I feel a little silly!

So on Monday I weighed and had gained 3 pounds overnight. I posted a big whiny post, feeling a little sorry for myself. I knew it was probably water, and assumed it was from a bun I had eaten! I didn't even think about the single serving of baked Cheetos I had consumed that night. They seemed so insignificant when I ate them. A responder to my post pointed out it was probably sodium, and not wheat. Monday night I had a small bowl of cereal to see how I would respond to a little more wheat, but watched my sodium all day.

Yesterday all of the fluid was gone, as well as 3 more pounds. That gives me a net loss of 3 pounds for the week. I feel a little silly about over reacting. I now know that I am EXTREMELY sensitive to sodium. Me and Cheetos won't be sharing anymore of our time together! I am so relieved that it wasn't the wheat. I still will be limiting all of my starches, but it's nice to know that I CAN eat them.

Yeah for your loss!!! Keep on keeping on! Just as an aside, I do much better with sodium when I make sure I get enough water.

It's great when you can identify and eliminate a food that doesn't suit you!

And don't worry about the whine: in most cases (mine anyway) the whine is followed by the whoosh. The only time that doesn't happen is if we give up and give in. You didn't!!!!! Great loss!

Nice! And I agree-- whine all you want. I really does help to vent here rather than vent elbow deep in a carton of ice cream!

My last few months I've been bouncing 5 or 6 pounds in the second half of the month. It's HORRIBLE, but it always whooshes away eventually and takes more with it.

sodium is my enemy. Biggest enemy. I can have one serving of chips and be up 3-4 pounds easily. A hot dog will put me up 3lbs. A V8 DRINK will put me up 3-4 pounds... and if you mix any of those together? Scary. My body can EASILY be holding 15 pounds of water weight at times.

Sodium is teh evil... lol!

Yes sodium is absolutely terrible for me too. I had two slices of pizza last night, and I was well within my calorie range, but was still up a pound or two from where I should be. Lots of water today!

NICE!!! Yep, sodium is bad for me, too. I ate some pickles and was aghast at what I saw on the scale afterward.

Hey we all whine! I have been whining because my weight recently has been 251 to 247 back to 252 down to 247 and back up to 251.5 and 249 right now. Sodium sucks! As does flying. And TOM. And anything that makes weight go up lol.

Sodium is seriously my BIGGEST enemy. I normally keep within a certain range (between 500 and 1800mg), but a few months back, while I was already retaining 3-4 pounds of water weight from a bbq and sore muscles, I went to a sushi buffet, and though I held myself accountable for calories, I didn't do that for sodium and I was up 16 POUNDS TOTAL! I knew it was the sodium but I literally almost cried. Anyway, when it happens, keep calm and don't let it make you spiral out of control

I found the same thing out the hard way after eating lunch at a Mexican place (that uses LOTS of salt) and then having my WW weigh in that evening. My ankles swelled up and everything. Yikes. I've eaten there twice more and had the same thing happen both times - no more Mexican place for me!

Thanks for all the replies. It really is great to be learning things like this. Before I started this new life I would have NEVER been able to identify anything that was causing me discomfort. I was so used to feeling like crap; it was just normal for me. I am glad that now I keep track of what I am eating. It is much easier to pinpoint the culprit.
