How on earth did I NOT know about this?

Seriously. How did I not know? Are there any other inexpensive low calorie things i'm just overlooking?

And it's very good. I use it for my "zucchini spaghetti." Sometimes I add mushrooms, bell pepper and/or onions.

I've never tried it but I want to now. On my next shopping trip I'll look for it. Thanks for the heads up.

Is this the stuff in the can? I just discovered it myself. It's great--beyond great--on chickpeas.

Yep, in the can. And it's around a dollar. My store had them recently 10 for $10. I bought all they had (about 5 of them) and got a raincheck for more.

Sounds like something I would love to try! I wonder if they have it in Canada. They never seem to have the good stuff over here

Aies,

What are the other ingredients in it? What are the sugars in it? I am going to compare to mine. I bought a case of sauce the other day and yep, the cheap stuff. Mine is 40 calories for 1/2 cup.

Here's a link to the nutrition information for the no sugar added sauce

http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutriti...no-added-sugar

Here's a link that lists the ingredients (and the calories match the can - the first link had them a little high)

Alright here is the nutrition info. I am typing this directly from the back of a unopened can. I stock pile food.

Serving size 1/2 cup (125g)
Servings per container about 6

amount per serving

Calories 35

Calories from fat 0

Total fat 0
saturated fat 0
trans fat 0
sodium 580mg
total Carbohydrate 6g
dietary fiber 2g
sugars 4g
Protein 1g
vitamin A 10%
Calcium 4%
Vitamin C 6%
Iron 6%

Ingredients

Tomato Puree, Water, Less than 2% of salt, soybean oil, dehydrated onions, carrot fiber, spices (including soy lecthin) Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum (in case you didn't know this is a thickener), Sucralose (sweetener), Acesulfame potassium (this is also a sweetener ,brand name of Sunett or sweet one), Natural Flavor.

Contains soy

All in all it's not the most "processed" free sauce out there. But I at least recognize every ingredient in the sauce.

Our sauces are similar. Mine has no sweetners. I do have 1g of fat and my sodium content is higher @ 610. Of note, the Vitamin C is 15% if it matters. Sugars are 5. Fiber is 3. Protein is 2.

I have not ever found your variety of Hunts. Mine is the Garlic & Herb. It sells for .88 at Walmart. It is one of the few varieties of Hunts (like your own) that doesn't contain HFCS.

Thanks for sharing and yes, I agree--to me it's a bargain considering the calories and the versatility of the stuff. I am sure a food snob will be along soon to poo poo our party.

Would also love some more easy, quick products that are low cost. (Nutritious and calorie-concious!) I already utilize bulk shopping, in season and on sale produce and the bulk bins--quinoa, oats, lentils, rice and the like.

qualifier on the "it's yummy" I start all pasta dishes with 2 teaspoons of olive oil getting hot in a pan, 1 small sweet (vidalia or red) onion diced, 1 large carrot diced, 1 bell pepper diced, 3-4 cloves of garlic crushed or minced, a bit of salt, and I saute them in the oil before I add my meat. (I always spice my meat with paprika, fennel (ground or whole seeds) rosemary, basil, oregano, fresh ground black pepper and garlic powder.) and a little cayenne (leave this out if you don't want heat) I'm pretty sure I could add plain tomato sauce and it would taste good. :P
