Question Teen Calorie Amount VS Adult Calorie Amount

Why is it that it is safe for adults to eat 1200 cals a day, but teens need a minumum of 1800? I know that teens are still growing and whatnot, but 1200 is kind of drasticly less than 1800-2150 (my range suggested by sparkteens.com).
I thought it would be safer for an adult to eat at least 1500. But 1200? I can barely eat less than 1600 if I tried. But, I guess when you're constantly on the go with no breaks in your life that 1200 is rather attainable.

Just wondering why its so much lower than a teens suggested daily intake.

The older you get, the less calories your body naturally burns. Metabolism slows down a lot. Teens need a lot of nutrition to help fuel their growing bodies.

Here's suggested ranges by age.

I don't see that adults get 1200.
