Do you think it looks weird when in ads, plus size women have no rolls/cellulite?
I don't mean a size 12 but more like a 18/20. I see photos of women this size in magazines sometimes, and they always seem to have no rolls, cellulite or anything that jiggles. I know that everyone gets photoshopped in ads, but it just looks weird to me, more weird than seeing a smaller person getting their rolls, cellulite and jiggle photoshopped out.
I think "plus-sized" by model standards is like a size 10. And it's amazing what photoshop can do. Also, it'd be weird to see a model with rolls of anything in a magazine. I mean, we're so used to seeing perfect looking people in magazines.
the women in the lane bryant ads are like sizes 12-20...I am short...currently a size 12 and I have rolls. But I really do believe that some larger women (especially the ones chosen to be plus size models...there has to be something special about you if you are a model)...can have nice, firm bodies. Usually these women are very tall with really large bone structures. They carry their weight in a different way. And I say this because I was examining them today. That said, I am sure that some/a lot of them do get air brushed.
I read something in the paper recently that in England, there is discussion of making ads/magazines put disclaimers wherever they have retouched models. If I remember correctly, these would be more like warning labels to discourage people (and especially young girls) from forming unrealistic ideas about ideal body size/shape. You typically think of retouching as a problem in "regular" models, but I suspect as you all have pointed out that this happens just as much in plus size models. I think the English have a fantastic idea.
I think on Torrid, the models there are quite large and roll-y, which I like because it gives me a more realistic idea of what *I* will look like in an article of clothing.
www.Torrid.com I think is the link. It's a plus-size version of Hot Topic
It is weird!!!! Because it's not real! they've all been photoshopped! If they photoshop size 0 models u can sure as heck bet they are photoshopping the spit outta the size 20 models!!! plus I'm sure they got them in spanx type undergarments to smooth things too.
I’ve always thought that was strange! Good question/topic. I always look at those pictures and think: “I’d be okay being plus sized if I looked like THAT!” They somehow have flat tummies and tiny belly buttons and smooth thighs. Of course, as you all have mentioned, photoshop is magic…
Photoshop is magic, however I've seen "plus sized" people in real life who don't have rolls. If your clothes fit well it creates a very flattering look.
Plus-sized models are very tall, at least 5'9" and usually closer to 6'. And they tend to be hourglass or pear shapes, so they don't carry the weight in places where you typically develop rolls. So I don't think it's weird to see size 12-20 women with flat tummies, but they should have cellulite. I only notice the photo-shopping when they're modeling something like bathing suits.
Glamour, the magazine, recently told readers they are going to begin using more and more 'regular' sized women in their magazines. They expressed that this may take some time due to the fact that most clothes sent to them are not regular sized, but that is what they are working towards. They had a photo shoot that accompanied this article. One of the photo's can be found here.
Its good that there is a movement right now to make people look more real in these photos..I was never really into the magazines, but I know first hand just how easy it is to photoshop those things out, because I do freelance graphics sometimes.. and for my schooling, we practiced removing fine lines, blemishes and wrinkles from a face, it was EASYYYY as pie..this is some very powerful software, and very misleading to everyone else at the least!
