Default Barbeque??

So, I like to go to this bbq place sometimes at lunch. What would you suggest I try. I am sure they have salads. I don't like there buns and usually eat just the meat anyway. Oh I am on phase 2. I am not saying I am going anytime soon, but would like to be prepared.

Your least fatty option would probably be turkey breast. Unless they ahve chicken (and you take off the skin. You can get the sauce left off or on the side and skip the bread, fries, etc. You might be okay with brisket or ham too but that is typically fattier and sometimes has honey. I think ribs might be the worst option. (That is what I would like best, of course.) The baked beans are probably loaded with brown sugar. And the cole slaw probably has a lot too. Good luck.

Tammie, see if you can get a copy of their menu and nutritional information online. If they are a little local place, stop by sometime (after you've had a meal, so you aren't tempted) and ask them questions about what they put in their food. You can eat any veggies that don't have bad fats or sugar on them, and any lean meat that doesn't have barbeque sauce on or in it. I bet you can find some great things!

I also make BBQ sauce at home-since we don't really eat out much. Here are several recipes from our forum. I like the one from the SBD book best.

honestly, there is soooo much sugar in BBQ sauce it's uncanny! Even in the vinegar based ones (which I usually prefer).

If you are looking to be turned off, check out the nutritional info of the place my DW used to frequent: Famous Dave's. It's a chain and not worth it! If we go back to NC, that's the only time I am getting BBQ again! Unless I make it myself...

I actually was at a BBQ place the other night. I was kinda in a rough place for a moment when I realized the sauce was going to be so sugary! And the people I went with purposely chose that restaurant thinking of me.

So I found the perfect option, salad with brisket on top. It was great. I still got to it something that was considered BBQ, the brisket with no sauce, with a yummy salad.

So maybe there is something like that there? I know salad gets boring, but it is always yummy when you know you're eating right!
