Update to below:
I have lost over 50 lbs and my recent A1C is 5.7.
I am down 42lbs so far and about 60 lbs from healthy weight. Has anyone lost 100lbs and their diabetes disappear? My A1C had my average BS at 199. I am now having fasting readings average around 115. When I started they were in the 150's. Is there hope?

It definitely helps- my friend who is very tiny lost 40 lbs (she went from 135 to 95 but she was like 4'10") and now she doesn't take her medication anymore and is fine- but she still has insulin with her at all times just in case.

If you're type 2 there is every reason to look forward to reversing your diabetes. That is my plan. I am anxious for my next A1C to see where I am. I plan to lose 100+ lbs so I truly believe I can turn this around based on everything I have read. Doctors don't tell you that though because I believe diabetes is BIG BUSINESS. I hate believing that, but I really do. All the best in your pursuit!
Once you lose the weight, you need to maintain it and get lots of exercise to keep off the meds. You will still need to monitor your blood sugar though. I don't think most doctors have ulterior motives to keep you diabetic. They usually encourage you to lose weight and eat properly. That's been my experience, anyway.
I agree with rosettastone,I believe doctor's want to see us get well. Most doctor's , anyway, there are bound to be some quacks out there. A reputable doctor will encourage you to get well. There are plenty of people who need help .They don't need to keep anybody diabetic. Diabetes can have serious complications. My son knows if he goes back to old habits and gains all his weight back, he will getting his old problems back.
Yes and no. While there is no known cure for diabetes, weight loss can definitely benefit certain type 2s. My latest blood test revealed my A1c to be 5.9 and my fasting blood glucose 88. This is a normal reading (non-diabetic). I am not on any meds. If I went to a new doc and he/she didn't know my diabetic history, I would most likely not be diagnosed as a diabetic. However, I know I can't go back to my old unhealthy lifestyle. There is definitely hope for all of us.
I believe you can reverse it -- you just have to make sure that you continue monitoring yourself regularly, and living your new healthy lifestyle. BTW, your little boy is very cute and has your big, bright eyes: now there's some motivation for ya, eh ...
my brother was diagnosed with diabetes when he passed out at my grandparents house.. was in the hospital for over a week while they got him back under control... his eye sight was all but done for weeks... he was on metformin and inslin.. he moved out here to bc years later and much weight gone... goes to a new doc says he has diabetes.. doc does tests... says no you don't.. he says yes i do... doc said he would nver have known without getting his older med chart that he had it...
