Weight Loss Surgery - checking into lap-band surgery

There is a local seminar on Sept 10. It is by a local Dr who specializes in lap-band surgery,. i've decided to go and check it out. i don't know if i fall into the catagory for this surgery but have decided to see about it anyway. The worst thing that could happen is they will say no to me.


i am 260 pounds, don't know if i am big enough and i also don't know about my insurance.


Despite these unknowns, i am still going to check it out.

At 260 pounds and 5'5, your BMI is 43.3. In the US, this qualifies you for any weight loss surgery procedure (adjustable gastric banding, roux-en-y, duodenal switch, or vertical sleeve gastrectomy). The guidelines are BMI of 40+ or BMI of 35-39 with comorbidities (such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.).

Sounds like you qualify for WLS.
