Default An oldie coming back to the boards & needs help

I just wanted to say hello. I was on this board a little over gulp 2 years ago. My last visit it says was 2-19-2007. I am very dissapointed in myself. I mainly posted over at the SBD threads as thats what I was doing at the time.

I do have PCOS, insulin resistance, fatty liver and pre diabetes.

I did well on the SBD for a long time and then I couldnt get past phase 1 or I would gain. Seems like the same deal on every diet/lifestyle change.

I need to get a jumpstart at my weight loss as its went up and I am at my highest ever. I am trying to decide if I want to do Nutrisystem again or SBD again. Any opinions?

Thanks all in advance!

Hi Kimberly! Welcome back!

Just wondering, but did you doctor perscribe anything for the Insulin Resistance? There are some mixed reviews about the use of Metformin, but I've been pretty happy with the results thus far.

The side affects suck in the begining, but when my body finally starts treating the sugars in my body like a normal person, whoah! hehe

I have always had better luck with a low-carb diet than anything else. I tried the SBD and found it helpful and I mainly stick to that in a nonformal way, I think.

I LOVE carbohydrates and really think that it could something that my body is addicted to, so it's really hard for me to "just say no." So, I'll have bread (just whole grain or sourdough (which is good for people with IR!)). And if I do eat pasta I make sure it's Whole grain. Basically, if I want bread or pasta or potatoes, I switch to the whole grain or the red potatoe (just a few bites to curve my craving).

I'm fairly new at the whole idea of IR and the dieting, so I'm sure lots of ladies will have some great advice for you too!

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Welcome back Overall, I think SBD is a good plan for helping you with figuring out what foods to eat although some people find they need to calorie count along with SBD. Others seem to do well on a very limited grain phase 2. I've never officially followed SBD as a diet for long term but I did use it in the beginning as a guideline for what to eat.

Thank you two for welcoming me back. I keep looking at the past and saying if only I kept up the SBD or Nutrisystem even though I know I cant be on Nutrisystem my whole life where would I be today. I hate having those thoughts and its so hard when friends lose weight so much easier and dont have PCOS or IR and just plain old dont understand.

Katherynn: I have been off and on Metformin since I was diagnosed with PCOS. It has helped me lose a few lbs but has never helped making me ovulate or get my period etc. I was taken off it for fatty liver and high liver enzymes but my liver specialist put me back on it for my liver, pre diabetes and PCOS so I am working my way up on my dose again and then will be rechecked to see how my blood work is doing in about 3 months.

I can lose weight with a low carb diet but I am miserable. When on Atkins I lost weight but also lost myself and my life. I was constantly crying and would literally kill for a piece of cake. Finally my husband came home with my balled up and crying as I had just thrown up from looking at meats cheese and eggs and told me I couldnt do this to myself anymore. That night I had a million sweets and finally felt better. On SBD I did great for a while and fell off the wagon and could never get back on. I crave carbs but mostly sweets. I could eat pizza and cheesecake everynight if I could.

Nelie: What have you been doing for weight loss, you are doing amazing! As I mentioned above SBD did work for a while for me but I couldnt get to phase 2 or I would gain weight back. It was so frustrating, I didnt count calories but I could def. tell when I ate too much sf/ff pudding.
