No, you have to look at the ingredients because sugars could be natural and allowed, like lactose, or could be from high fructose corn syrup or other nasty things. Carbs could be good and healthy like whole grains or bad like refined white flour, and so on...
I'm pretty sure if you read the book it goes over reading the nutrition label so you can tell if the ingredients are SB friendly or not. The stickies here are also a great way to keep track of breads, salad dressings and stuff that are OK to use. I used to take the printed list from the stickies with me to the store. Dr. A. also came out with a paperback SB book The South Beach Diet Good Fats/Good Carbs Guide which might be helpful as a guide.
