Default What's Worked! Weight loss tips

Have you lost weight this week? Ever?
Have you broken a plateau?

If so... How did you do it?!

There's a number of us, myself included, who are weight-loss stuck and seem to be doing everything RIGHT but getting no results.

So, could you please kind readers, tell us what you've done EVER to lose weight? For me, what's worked before isn't working now.

Anything from "I ate XXXX calories and did XX exercise for XX minutes X days a week" to "I cut out XXX and dropped X lbs in a week" to "I increased my calories and exercised less and lost X lbs."

We're all here for each other so... throw us a bone? I'll happily return the favor once the scale hits 157.

1. Not eating processed foods, and adding more fruits & veggies

2. The McDougall Diet (there is alot of feedback online, its AWESOME)

3. The Fat Smash Diet (worked great for me but I never got past Phase2)

4. Actually changing your lifestyle, not by barely eating anymore, but by trying new healthy low cal recipes-you're bound to end up liking one, changing the way you look at food and yourself.

5. The book "Skinny B**ch" was my personal life changer, its at most libraries, check it out

6. Learning to move more, and to like exercise not dread it (still working on this one)

7. Learning the difference between good carbs and bad carbs

8. reading lots of different materials on healthy eating (books, websites such as health.com self.com etc)

1. Not drinking calories
2. Exercising every day (I love walking, it is so relaxing)
3. Not forbidding any foods, just making sure that they fit into my calories
4. Acknowledging that this is not a diet, but my new lifestyle
5. Eating moderate quantities of foods that I like, not "diet" food
6. Getting rid of the "I'll start back [Monday]" attitude. If you fall, you don't lay there in the mud until the beginning of the week to get back up! You stumble, then pick yourself up immediately and get back on track.

Yes, definitely not drinking calories, wine and juice are full of calories, and they don't even fill you up. I lost quite a lot of weight the other year by eating about 1500 calories, and exercising 40 mins per day/4 days per week. A medium bowl of oatmeal porridge is only about 100cals and keeps you full for hours, also I find it helpful to have tiny boxes of raisins in the drawer (about matchbox size) at work for random sugar cravings when everyone else is getting chocolate from the vending machine.

No fried foods, no red meat, no wheat anything. More brown rice, more veggies. More exercise. I stay at 1200-1300/day. Once a week, I'll go over to about 1500. Seems to be working. Oh, and no more drinking calories...usually.

excersize has prob been the most thing that has helped. Also calorie counting. Really it's 1A and 1B with those two things

Yeah, I agree - no more drinking calories. I usually drink water, green tea! <3, crystal light and on occasion I'll drink diet soda.

Calorie counting has been a big help. You're not limited to what you can and can't eat. I'm sure you can eat 1,500 calories of junk food + exercise and still loose...I'm just not how sure how healthy you'll really be. But I try to eat better: lean meats, more veggies and fruits, whole grains. It's just nice to know that if you want a "bad" treat and just eat it in moderation, you can still be within your limits.

Also doing this with someone else helps. My fiance is changing his eating habits too. I've stayed OP more days then before. I feel like I have to be an example to him. Since he knows and sees what I'm doing, it keeps me in line.

I was staying the same and slowly gaining for many years. Then I started journaling EVERYTHING I ate everyday. Once the journaling started, I lost 40 pounds in a few months.

When I was on my first plateau/stall/whateveryoucallit my trainer and doctor recommended taking a week of rest and upping the calories a smidge, 200 or so more. I did and lost 7 pounds that week.

I also loved the book "Skinny B**ch", and would add not giving up and being grateful that you're not gaining! I've never heard of anyone being on a lifelong plateau, you will break through it!

I personally find that I have trouble managing my food it's when I'm stressed and strapped for time. If I make it a priority to take care of myself..ie go out 2 nights a week, make sure my legs get shaved, take the time to look cute before I go out, keep my life organized and prioritized (including making time to go grocery shopping and planning my food) I have a much easier time staying on plan. I make sure that these things get done and everything else just falls into place.

Also sleeping is a huge one for me. I allow myself 9 hours of sleep time per night (it usually takes me an hour or so to fall asleep so I usually sleep for about 8 hrs). This is 9 hours of time that I'm not eating and it just makes me feel better.

Lastly I follow South Beach so if the weight isn't comming off I usually just switch back to phase 1 for a week and then I'll see a loss.

Most of the stuff I was going to suggest has been said already! Like they say, great minds think alike!

For me, whenever I hit a plateau I switch up my diet or workout. Drink a TON of water, steer clear from beer/alcohol, and don't drink up your calories. I try to eat 6 small meals a day so I don't ever get stuffed. And of course ... exercise -- both cardio and weight training.

No french fries, little or no sweets and treats.
Eating between 1400-1750 calories, when I go over 1750, I work out for 30 minutes doing a step & sweat video and stretch for a few minutes.
