Default eating makes people lose weight

I have an intestinal disorder. For 3 weeks I couldn't eat anything but broth and hot tea. One of the main side effects of the disease is weight loss during flare ups and I had the worst one ever for those 3 weeks. Being someone who is trying to lose weight I was thrilled that at least there would be a silver lining and I'd lose crazy pounds. Got on scale - NOT ONE POUND LOST - NOT ONE!!!! Then the next week was Thanksgiving and I felt better and ate and ate a lot - one day I found myself eating Pecan pie for breakfast!! Got on the scale - lost 2 pounds - what?? That is insane. Then this week I have been kinda off the wagon - not TOO bad, but a Whitmans sampler was involved - and I lost 3 pounds. I'm NOT complaining - but I am so befuddled.

Maybe there is something to this eating enough calories theory.......

I definately believe it. And it's not just eating in general, it's how much you eat. On days that I eat around 1300 calories, I rarely lose a pound the next day. But when I go ahead and eat 15-1700, I almost always lose. It's crazy, but very nice

I have tinkered with this myself and found that as long as it doesn't become a habit a once in while over calorie limit will set me to losing once again. I think that is why the Wendy Plan works so well.

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense. I am glad you are feeling better.

skinny, sounds familiar as I have experienced this myself from time to time when I took in more calories..

just curious, the broth you were drinking--did it have bunches of sodium?

ROFL, that is just too darned funny! Yes, I have had an issue this week too and "it involved" a gingerbread house. First the roof went missing, next the front of the house went too and before I knew it a beautiful silver lined tray was all that remained!

I think you have to eat to lose too! But, were you on steroids during your flare? That could be part of it too. Either way, congrats on feeling better and losing some more

I find that cycling in a small range makes me lose the most, and definitely helps me maintain. A few days a week of lower calories, and a few days of somewhat higher works...but ironically I usually get my weight losses the morning after the higher calorie days.

My personal theory is that on the lower calorie days my body starts to worry that it will be starved and hangs on to that fat...then it gets some calories, relaxes and lets go.
