Default Er... "Recycling" clothing...

So from one college student to another...

I wear my clothes several times before I wash them. Jeans for sure, pjs usually, shirts - maybe. Does anyone else do this? It saves me tons of money!

I'm not a college student and yes, I do this.

If something isn't dirty, why wash it? Clothing wears out quicker if washed after every wearing. I do wash most shirts after one wearing though, since they come into contact with the underarms and obviously, clean undies are a MUST! Pj's and jeans can go a few wearings and towels/sheets get washed once a week.

My frugal side won't allow me to wash jeans unless I've worn them a few times or spilled something on them. The only things that get washed after one use in my house is socks and undies.

Not a problem as long as it's clean. There is no reason it HAS to be washed every time. I do this especially with my "comfies." I come home and change into comfy pants / top. I'm only in them a few hours, sitting around the apartment. I don't have enough money for a week (or two) worth of new items every day, nor the space, nor an inclination to do that much laundry!

I'm with the people up there. I'm just a regular gal, and I re-wear clothes, too. Why wash clean clothes? You're not being 'too' frugal, you're being normal.

lol yeah, I figured. It's funny though, my town house has a washer and dryer IN it! So I feel like I should be washing my clothes more regularly.... whatever, I'm lazy, plus it saves on the energy bill....

seriously, i wash my jeans about 4 times a year (i do have more than one pair though like, at least 2 pairs ). I usually just wear stuff until it smells or has something spilt down it. Exceptions are socks and undies like Ghost, and work out tops

I rarely wash anything after 1 wear. Unless it's summer and I've sweated on it, or I've spilled something, there's really no need. I put on my clothes, go into the office and sit in front of a computer in an air conditioned room, and then go home. Why waste the water and the soap and put the stress on my clothing.

The only exception are my shooting clothes. If I've worn something to a shoot, it goes in the wash - and especially a wedding. But then that goes back to that sweating thing!

Unhappy

I only wash my jeans like, once a week.

But! I'm weird and I can't sleep in the same thing two nights in a row. Maybe the same shorts or pants, but NOT the same shirt. The shirts just feel used and gross to me...

We have four girls in one apartment and I feel like our Washer and Dryer is constantly running! Runs up the electricity AND water bill.

OMG! I thought I was the only one who did this!!

I'm lucky enough to have a washer/dryer in my apt building (many in the city are not as lucky)...but it's $1.75 for the washer and the same for the dryer, which makes it $3.50 for the whole cycle!! There's a lot of stuff that I don't dry, so I usually do 1 dryer load for every 2 washer loads, but still...MAN that adds up!!

I would love to hang-dry more stuff, but there just isn't enough space in my apt.

Another thing that's sad is that I LOVE doing laundry!! I really do!! I love the smell and folding it and having it be all warm and having organized drawers...it's great!

Um ... just to be clear ...

Underwear is a whole different thing. Those get washed after every wearing.

I, too, only wash stuff that's actually dirty. As far as jeans go, I often feel I CAN'T wash my jeans because when they get tight in the dryer they will be too uncomfortable until they get stretched out again. So I probably wash my jeans less frequently than I should...

Agreed wholeheartedly.

I have a pair of workout clothes that I wear to the gym for a week. One hour workouts with moderate sweating - yeah, they smell a little sour at the end of the week, but I go home, shower, and change right after I finish anyway. Everything else gets worn twice unless I spill on it.
