South Beach Diet - Finally Friday Chat

View Full Version : Finally Friday Chat

Yippee! I get to start the daily - although other Early Chickies are probably lurking out there.

Big morning ahead starting with lugging out the trash - again! I forgot that Monday was a stat holiday so the stuff didn't get picked up yesterday and the dump was closed. I had to put all the crud into my car as we have nocturnal visitors around here - coyotes at the moment but skunks and raccoons will be taking over soon! The joys of rural living!

I have foot care at the clinic at 9 and need to be back here by ten so it'll be a rush. Gail is popping in for a visit then, mainly to see Hershey, I think. She's a fan. I also have Donna coming to finally get at the vacuuming in the sewingroom and do have a dab more of sorting to do before then. Gail used to clean for me before I got Donna and was the best person I've ever had. She knew exactly what had to be done when whereas Donna needs lots of direction. Guess I shouldn't complain as I 'm lucky to have anyone.

The rest of the day will be MINE!

How does your Friday look from this end of the day?

03-28-2008, 07:31 AM
My Friday is getting off to a slow start, but I'm dressed in my workout clothes and heading to Curves in a few minutes. I have an unexpected morning off since Maggie's class is having a special party this afternoon, so she'll be in school all day, and I'll pick up both girls at 3. I have some grocery shopping to do, but other than that, I'm free!

03-28-2008, 07:34 AM
Morning Ruth! Sounds like you have a busy day ahead! Coyotes, Skunks and Racoons....oh my!

Me: Nothing special. Just work and maybe some gardening when the sun comes out. And figuring out what to do with some ground turkey. Exiting day, huh? One of my best friends came over for a visit yesterday. She borrowed my SB book about a month ago and has lost 10lbs. I am so proud of her and she feels more heartburn etc. I think the trick is to get everyone who you know and love to get on SB, then you never have to worry about what they fix when you go to their house to eat. We had a snack of my "frozen fruit sorbet" and enjoyed sitting on the patio in perfect weather.

I think tomorrow afternoon, we are going to an "International Beer Fest" which should be fun. My husband loves to try all different kinds of beer. It will be held at a Rural Life Museum that has gorgeous gardens, so I plan on trying out some new stuff with my camera. Want to hit my one of my fav. restaurants first.

Morning Cottage, we were posting at the same time...have fun with your free time. If you find anything new and wonderful at the grocery store, let us know!

03-28-2008, 07:56 AM

Good morning chicks :coffee:

Ruth - There's snow all over my yard again  Last spring we had raccoons stealing our bird feeders! We put jelly and oranges out for the orioles and the raccoons stole the whole feeder. They also went after the hummingbird feeders. I actually caught them at it one night, not that they cared.

Cottage - enjoy you morning of leisure :) there's nothing like found time.

Cat - I think I'd get in trouble at a beer fest. I like really good microbrewery beers and love trying all the different varieties. My favorite ever was a pumpkin beer - much better than it sounds :)

jandaman - Stay strong! I'm terrible at the negotiation part too sadly. Hope that UTI hits the road quickly.

Me - did I mention the snow?!?!? I have to go in because I took a rental car for yesterdays meeting. I don't usually but thought I might as well since I had to be in town the day before and after and my car appreciates the break. Darn!

Nothing exciting on tap this weekend. I have to work just a little tomorrow so will plan errands around that. I just hope this snow gets out of here fast.

Have a good day Chicks!

03-28-2008, 08:42 AM
Grocery store items? I don't know if you can find it in NA but my sister brought back several wee bottles of flavoured olive oil from her last trip to Rome.

Would you believe Donna just phoned and cancelled - AGAIN! She has to take her mother to the doctor.

03-28-2008, 08:53 AM
Good morning ladies:

Ruth: busy day eh? wee bottles... how cute.... and skunks?? we have enough problems with chipmunks and squirrels

Cottage: enjoy your 'free' day

Cat: BEER FEST??? More and more I think i'm blessed that I don't like beer...

jandaman UGH UTIs are the worst... i hate them. Thankfully since I stopped using a diaphram for birth control I've had almost no attacks... and thanks for the KUDOS... it was a bad day yesterday... but like annie said 'the sun will come out tomorrow' AND IT DID!

Cyndi I'm sorry you still have snow... truly... we didn't get much this year or last year... I would have liked some for the winter... but i'm glad it's spring.

ME: oh i did PERSONALS CREDIT MOI. did my Beck work yesterday it's very very interesting... yesterday was about how hunger is not the worst pain we will ever feel, it's not an emergency and it won't kill us. very true... not happy about it but true.

last night hubby and I watched tv together (a rareity) and then went upstairs at the same time (even rarer) and mumble mumble mumble.. and something... (so rare it's never happened) suffice it to say we are both rather pleased with ourselves this morning LOL

busy at work today.. have a busy weekend planned.. buying 2 sofas tomorrow to replace our 25 yr old sectional, then sunday is race day for brian and awards... and i'll be cleaning the fridge and buying produce.... oh joy.

tomorrow night we have a bull and oyster roast with his boss... that means food and drinks and gambling... i've been to these before I drink water no one cares and i eat what i can and no one cares.... life is good.. with the boot on dancing may be interesting....

later chicks...

03-28-2008, 09:09 AM
Good morning! It's friday, what a LONG week! Sorry to not pop in but things have been crazy. I painted the bathroom last week only to find out the floor I had chosen there was not enough in stock so I had to pick a different floor and not sure the pain will go with the floor! I have my sister coming over in the morning and going to ask her what she thinks. Then we are going to go shopping for clothes, I need a spring wardrobe!!

Snow? Did someone say snow? I came out to have to brush off 8 inches!!!!!!! It is ssoooo pretty with the trees covered with it! not just a dusting, several inches on them! a true winter wonderland!

03-28-2008, 09:31 AM
Good morning chicks, and how happy are we it's Friday? Although my weekend doesn't sound as fun as some - bull and oyster roasts and beer fests!
How are our cranky girls today? SANative? Gonna? Nessa, sounds like you got the "attention" you needed and are much improved today!
And how are the sickies and those recovering? Tawnya? Connor? Tom?
I got another sticker for a good Ph1 day yesterday. I'd forgotten how helpful a really clean Ph1 could be. Don't know that I've lost anything, but I am feeling much more able to resist those temptations. Nessa, I got the Beck book and started reading it last night, but I haven't started any of the tasks yet. Maybe today...
Okay, better go walk the kiddies, although I'm tempted to let them go on their own this morning. It's not that far, there's a crossing guard, and they assure me they can handle it. Really, I mainly go with just to ensure I get in a walk.

Ruth, sorry you got cancelled on again. That must get really frustrating!
cottage, enjoy your free morning!
Cat, I know you'll be happy as a clam if you can get out in that garden today!
jan, sorry about the UTI, I will add you to the sickie list. Hope all goes well with the negotitations. I got an email that our raises came out yesterday, so I can call my boss and find out what I got, or wait two weeks for my paycheck. Haven't decided yet - I'm afraid it'll make me angry and spoil my weekend.
Cyndi, snow? ick! poor thing. I'm glad our chances are gone now.
Loriann, happy shopping for spring clothes in the snow lol!

Okay, no more chit-chat about Mexican food today, ladies. It's because of you I have to make taco soup for lunch. Have a good one!

03-28-2008, 09:45 AM

Good morning evryone! Hope this is a very productive day in all areas of your lives.

I did my weekly weigh in this morning and for the third week in a row I am at 198.4 I feel somethings gonna give I just know it. Tonights family dinner night and my grandmothers choice is Applebees. Tomorrow we have the Juvenile Diabetes walk and then some working around the house to do and can't forget about those errands and gotta get my hair trimmed and Sunday we have church and dh has a softball game and theres more work around the house we will get done.

You chickies have a good morning - once I get situated here at work I'll be back to check on yall.

03-28-2008, 10:01 AM

Cat: BEER FEST??? More and more I think i'm blessed that I don't like beer...[QUOTE]

I don't really care for it all that much either. The ONLY time I really want a beer is when I go to a crawfish boil and it's REALLY hot outside and the beer is REALLY cold and even then it's no big temptation. Now, gin, that's another matter. (gin and gingerale and a twist of lime...ahhhh...or a Cuba Libre..oooo)

03-28-2008, 10:09 AM
Morning girlies! TGIF!!!!! (I can say that now because I don't have to work weekends anymore.) Abdul's home this weekend, staying with my parents as always, so I think we're going to do karaoke tonight. I haven't been out in a long time so it'll be fun. Then we're spending the rest of the weekend setting up Tommy's son's bedroom in my apartment. Gotta get the bed set up and stuff, and we got Cars stuff to decorate. I'm so excited!

Gonna be a long day at work, as it is Friday, but I'm off at 5 at least. Hope all of you girls have a great day!

03-28-2008, 11:19 AM
Ruth Its snowing here. I had never heard of Easter Monday til I came up here.
I would definetly be in trouble at a beer fest.I have to behave now.

UTI's are not fun. I had one and the pain bout killed me. Definetly a TGIF here. I have to work tonight. After three day's I"m pooped.

I did get my first check though. Okay chicks the insurance in the states costs more than taxes here. Go figure. I'm hovering between 236 and 237 down I think 3 lbs from last week. 2 at least anyway. My hubby is plateaued. I'll be at my goal by the time I get to the specialist.

I also go into a size 18 jeans today. My shirt size will probably stay at 2x because of the legnth. I can fit into smaller shirts but my belly button shows.

03-28-2008, 11:47 AM
Hey everyone!

I did my workout and got groceries, and have a turkey London Broil in the oven now for Jake's supper tonight. I like to fix supper in the mornings when I have the time, it makes it so much easier when I get home at night. ;) I hate to come home all tired and have to think about cooking a meal.
I didn't find anything new at the store, but they had some great sales on produce. I really stocked up, I just hope I can use it all before it goes bad!

Cat, I hope you can get outside in your garden today, and enjoy your day tomorrow at the Beer Fest! I just can't develop a liking for beer, but a Cuba Libre, YUM!

Janda, get well soon! A weekend spent on the couch doesn't sound all that bad to me, but I'm sorry you're in pain. Take good care of yourself.

Cyndi, that's a shame about the snow! And just when you were celebrating the sight of your green lawn again! Be careful driving in it.

Nessa, you are loved and appreciated around here. I'm glad you're in a better frame of mind today!

Loriann, I was wondering where you had gotten to! You'll have to post some pictures of your redecorating, it sounds great! Wow, 8 inches of new snow for you!!!

Schmoodle, you're sounding a lot more positive and energized these days! Phase 1 must be working well for you this time around! :) Did you get to watch Survivor last night? It was pre-empted here because of college basketball. :( I was just wondering if it was cancelled for everyone, or did we miss an episode?

GONNA, have fun at your family dinner tonight! I love the grilled shrimp & spinach salad at Applebee's, and their grilled tilapia is very good, too. Sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead!

weezle, you sound so happy and content! Have fun setting up the bedroom!

Spirit, congratulations on a smaller size jeans! :D

03-28-2008, 11:52 AM
Ruth: Thanks for starting us up! Your Friday looks great once the morning is over - hope Donna brings her 'A' game for you today! (After scrolling down, I see that she didn't! Maybe Gail needs a few extra bucks?) Enjoy Gail's visit!

Cottage: Enjoy your freedom...and your workout! I hope your Friday is great!

Cat: Enjoy your gardening! Sounds like DH and I could go to the beerfest with you two! He loves trying beer and I'd be next to you taking pictures of the gardens (learning a lot as well!) Have a wonderful time! It's great about your friend - I'm currently working on a friend of mine, she's been crash dieting to try to get to a healthy weight for pregnancy and she's 41. It's starting to scare me!

jandaman: Hope your UTI clears up quickly, sorry that you're going through that. Enjoy your couch-time!

Cyndi: Sorry that you have to drive in today - be careful! Hope you're able to salvage your day after that!

Nessa: Well, since you and DH are on :cloud9: this morning, I'll just  and be on my way! ;) (Although I will second what jandaman said!)

Loriann: :yikes: I can't imagine that much snow this morning - it's already in the 70s and climbing. It would be nice, though. Sorry about the paint/floor fiasco! I hope you and your sis find out a solution!

Schmoodle: Okay, okay. No more Mexican food discussions, I promise! Enjoy your day today and that taco soup!

Gonna: You have a busy weekend ahead of you! Hope you fit it all in! What are you going to do to your hair? I'm sure your plateau will break soon! Just stick with it!

Lisa: How exciting! Are they moving in permanently or are you just going to have a special room for him when they're there? Either way - it's going to be fun for all three of you! Enjoy karaoke with Abdul - wish I could join ya'll. My night won't be nearly so interesting!

Spirit: Congrats on your loss so far and the new pants size! Sorry you have to work tonight, but I hope that it goes by fast!

Me: Nothing much over here. Spent hours cleaning out my room last night. It's still not where I want it to be, but decent enough. I'll have to wait for our summer yard sale to really clean it.

Tonight I'm planning on catching up on some crafts I've been meaning to take care of. I need to sort out some yarn for crochet projects and make a list of incomplete projects. Need to get things going so I'm prepared for next Christmas!

Tomorrow I'm hoping that we'll get up, go to breakfast and then head to the courthouse where the tulips are blooming beautifully so that I can go get some pics. Then we'll do our usual errand-route; True Value, grocery store, post office and then home. I haven't shared the breakfast and picture-taking plans with DH yet, but I think he'll be okay with it.

Well, off to other internet pursuits! Hope everyone to follow has a good day.

03-28-2008, 11:55 AM
Good morning.
schmoodle-I am doing so much better. No more sore throat. My equlibrium is off though. I'm dizzy and feel like I've been on water for a month. I've had really bad allergies but took zyrtec and that is wonderful but it does make me tired.

Nothing much going on. Everyone seems so busy. UTI's suck. Can't stand them and yeast infections. Uuuuhhhh. So uncomfortable. I think my DH would love to go to a beer fest. I can't stand beer.

Got all my grocery shopping done yesterday. Very happy about that. I have a birthday cake to make for next weekend. I'm gonna do a shoebox with shoes. Will post pics when I'm done with it.

Kara-sorry got off the comp yesterday. Wasn't able to help you with the gumpaste question but PM me if you have any pics and I'll be able to help you that way.

Off to clean the house and get some stuff done. Have a wonderful day.

03-28-2008, 11:56 AM
I forgot to tell you guys of my good news - I bought a pair of size 14 pants at Lane Bryant last week not knowing if they would fit and well they fit which means I am a step closer to never having to shop there again! :D

03-28-2008, 11:59 AM
I forgot to tell you guys of my good news - I bought a pair of size 14 pants at Lane Bryant last week not knowing if they would fit and well they fit which means I am a step closer to never having to shop there again! :D

WOW! major major CONGRATS!

03-28-2008, 12:00 PM
good for you gonna. I hate shopping there. Congratulations!!!!

03-28-2008, 12:03 PM
Good morning everyone! I actually got up in time to say good morning instead of afternoon.
Ruth-ditto what Cat said...coyotes and skunks and raccoons, OH MY!, the same sing-song was in my head. Hope your cleaning lady can make it soon.
Cottage-a free day on a friday, sounds wonderful, enjoy!
Cat-I very much like your idea of converting more and more over to SB way of eating so we can have SB friendly meals at their houses! mmmmmm-Beer fest, one of my loves that I only partake of on rare occasion now.
Jandaman-sorry you are having pain, hope the infection clears quickly and you have relief. Rest and get well!
Cyndi-I enjoy pumpkin beer as well, it is kind of rich with the subtle taste of pumpkin pie spices. Sending sunshine your way to melt your snow.
Nessa-Beck sounds interesting and helpful. Gwen Shamblin-Weigh Down Diet talks similarly about hunger. Maybe with your boot you could do some "chair" dancing, like when in the car???
Loriann-Enjoy your shopping!
Schmoodle-yes ma'am, I'll zip my lips today on the food talk. Have a nice Friday!
Gonna-Have fun with your Grandma at dinner and enjoy your walk.
Weezle-Enjoy going out and decorating, I love decorating, but I really want Vern Yip to come and decorate my house!
Spirit-Hope you have a good night at work. Congrats on the size 18 jeans--good work!

I am going to start packing today. Hopefully the puppy will let me.
He slept well last night in our room. DH wasn't awakened once by him until about 6:45 this morning and that is DH's usual wake up time anyway. The pup came to me about 4 AM, but I pretended to stay asleep and he went and laid back on his bed. He must have understood DH's threat that he would be sleeping in his box if he couldn't settle in at night.
We are going to a church rummage sale tomorrow morning and may try to hit some others in the area. We don't usually come home with much, but usually find some books. Every now and then we get lucky, we got a nice rocking chair-wood and rattan 2 years ago for $15, it is still rocking strong.
Commissary shopping is also on the list of to-do's for tomorrow. We try to stock up at the commissary as it saves mucho dinero.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone.

03-28-2008, 12:11 PM
Kim-have fun crafting. Tulips are my absolute favorite flower, I carried them in my wedding.
TK-glad you are feeling better--be careful while dizzy-hold onto things when you first stand up and while walking so you don't fall. Enjoy your cake creating.
Gonna-congrats on the size 14! being able to shop at "regular" clothes stores is one of my big goals.

03-28-2008, 12:12 PM
Nobody loves me
Everybody hates me
I think I'll go and eat worms
Not only did Donna cancel but, after dashing home from footcare, Gail isn't here either! I flossed, Scoped and Mitchumed this morning too!
I guess I'll go and kick butt somewhere!

Gonna, congrats on your NSV!

Kim, nice to know someone else starts Christmas stuff this early. I have two wall hangings and two silk floral arrangements ready to wrap.

Cottage, I am constantly buying spring greens that look great in the store but get that compost smell after a day. Any suggestions?

Spirit, congrats on the first cheque AND on the new jean size. I'm finally into a 16 but am still 1X up top - darn boobs!

Schmoodle, I like walks with a purpose but it's not worth getting some kids at this stage of my life!

Sorry about the snow, Loriann. I can see it on the radar but it's staying on the US side of the St Lawrence.

Bull and beer fest? Sounds dangerous to me.

Nessa, personals? Careful - it can be habit-forming.

I know I've missed folks but I have to go find some worms to eat.

03-28-2008, 12:35 PM
Well, I just lost 3 hours of my day. We had a power outage. *grr* A lot of snow fell overnight, and it was wet, then it all froze and we had 6 inches of icy snow on the power lines. It LOOKS gorgeous, but very yucky. Of course, the only things I had to do today were computer programming (no power), laundry (no power) vacuum (no power), do dishes (no power = no water)... So, I sat down and read a book, but I was so distracted and impatient to get my computer work done, I don't remember what I read.

Cat, you just reminded me that I need to figure out what to eat for dinner. Ugh! I hate always having to think of it.

By the way, I am ripping my hair out. I am trying to get a background image to print out using a CSS external file, and for the LIFE of me I can't get it to work, no matter what I do. It works in the body tag, but not in the CSS. Is there a trick, or is this a bug? I'm using FireFox. I guess I could take a look with my IE...

Janda - sounds like it's time to pull the "I'm getting a different job" trick. Go out, interview for another job, get an offer that's more money and tell your boss to match it or you're on your way. You can't pull it every year, but if you've been denied a raise for a long time, it is a very effective technique for desperate times. It also helps if you will actually accept the job.

Nessa - you are WAAAAY Too funny! mumble mumble...

Gonna - I scrolled to your boogie carrots and got a :D

Cat - I like a gin & tonic with lime.. Gin is so refreshing. I used to drink girly drinks, but that one scaled me up to the big kids, I think.

Spirit - How about if you spare a couple of those inches on your torso for me? Or a little on the legs? I really would only like 2 or 3... If you wanted, I could even share some of "the girls", I've got plenty of that to spare, even when I am skinny.

Kim... aaaaah - another crochet fan.. :D That's my favorite thing to do with my downtime. I didn't have the patience this morning, though.

Gotta go catch up from this morning!

03-28-2008, 01:13 PM
ugh I remember once having no power for three days... it was HORRIBLE....

glad it was only a few hours for you!

03-28-2008, 01:17 PM
Cottage, I am constantly buying spring greens that look great in the store but get that compost smell after a day. Any suggestions?

Sorry, that happens to me all the time, too. The only suggestion I have is to not wash anything beforehand. But you probably already know that. ;)
Too bad that Donna and Gail didn't show today, but please don't resort to eating worms!!! We all love you!

03-28-2008, 01:42 PM
Wow-You girls are chatty-
And NO-Mo (aka SAnativegirl) is not
having a better day. These 2 girls at work are giving me a hard time cuz I want the same day off in May one of them wants. the remaining girl doesnt
want to answer the phones by herself. My God-they dont ring anyway!
Plus they are cutting our hours down from 40 to probably 32. theres goes
20% pay. but I am looking for job. I figured what 20% less would be working at 40 hrs and thats the min I'll take at new job (if I can find one) Plus I think
theyre pissed cuz I leaving at 1pm to take 4 hrs left of last vacation. After all I do for them. i have always tried to treat people the way i wanted to be treated. Jerks- so thanks for asking- but heh-husband just called, hes done with work, we are packed and will stop in San MArcos outlet mall, theres a neat store that sells cool knit sundresses. So I will take your advice and have a fun day.

03-28-2008, 02:42 PM
Hi chicks, got in my WATP and all is forgiven regarding yesterday's Taco-taunting because my lunchy taco soup was super yum!
Gonna, something will give, you just be patient. I have been really, really super good all week, and the scale has not budged yet, so I feel your anguish. But I just know we will be rewarded for our efforts. Congrats on the 14s! Okay, I'm a little jealous, it's funny, looking at your weight and height and mine, I should be in 14s too, but I've got two pairs of LB size 14 jeans waiting in the closet and I'm not there yet. Of course I have got an excess of butt. I can zip them up now though! I was kinda thinking I would missing shopping at LB, that place has been my friend for many years. But that's crazy talk isn't it?

Beer, oooh I love beer. Beer would go really well with taco soup. I miss beer. And gin. And tequila...

Hooray on the jeans spirit!
Happy decorating weezle!
cottage, what, pray tell, is a turkey London broil? London broils are generally cooked rarish, and I can't even imagine one made with turkey. How do you cook it? Where do you get it? And yes, thanks for noticing, I am feeling great! It's such a relief. I love Phase I. It's like magic. Even though I haven't lost an ounce. But just wait until I am pre-menstrual again, and I'm sure the whining will return. I was mad last night, I was all ready to watch with my yogurt. Stupid basketball. I don't know if they aired it Wednesday or if it was a week off. I will watch it online, but I have to wait until DH gets us a new video card.
Kim, I wish I was on your Christmas list. I love the handcrafted gifts the best. ;)
Glad you are feeling better tk!
Happy rummaging Karla!

Are worms SB-friendly?
Hi fluff!
If we're going to start passing around body parts, anybody need some booty?

03-28-2008, 02:45 PM
OH, almost forgot. I got word of my raise - 10% this year. That's better than I thought they'd do. Of course, my casually mentioning a job offer probably didn't hurt. Now, is it enough? hmmmm....
Time for some serious career and financial planning discussions with DH.

03-28-2008, 02:47 PM

Schmoodle that's GREAT!

03-28-2008, 02:47 PM
Schmoodle the funny thing is it seems I have lost more inches than weight - crazy. I know what you mean about not shopping at LB anymore but Oh how good it will feel not to have to go there for ourselves. Worms I'm thinking they could be SB friendly :dizzy: as they are pretty natural/nature

03-28-2008, 02:49 PM
:carrot: WWay to go Schmoodle on the raise :carrot:

03-28-2008, 03:16 PM
Congrats, Schmoodle on your raise! :carrot:

Congrats, Gonna on your size 14s!! :carrot:

Lots of NSVs for us South Beach Chicks!!!

Do any of our gardening chicks have experience with Arapaho Crape Myrtles? Here ( and here ( is some info. I love how it looks and it seems to be a great, moderate maintenance tree to go in our front yard in front of the bay window. We're in Zone 7, which is a good zone, but I have little experience with the Crepe Myrtles in general.

03-28-2008, 03:56 PM
Congrats on the raise Schmoodle!

03-28-2008, 04:00 PM
Ruth-recently we have been wrapping a paper towel or even a cloth napkin around the veggies and then putting them into a bag, but leave the bag open a bit or poke a couple holes in it with a knife or fork. If the veggies can remain relatively dry, especially the green leafy ones, then they last longer. We do put them into the crisper drawer. Some of the prepared lettuce/green mixes come in "breathable" bags now, they say to leave them in their bags. These 2 things seem to give us a longer "shelf" life on the veggies.

There are commercially available bags...I think they are called green bags. They are supposed to do the same thing.

Schmoodle, Tommy's still not feeling well. He thought he was good as of last night but he blew the toilet up again today. Too many bathroom celebrations. :(

Kim, they're moving in for good. Tommy's son has been with his mother for a few weeks, and when he comes back, he gets a big boy room! Holy cow, a place for all his toys! We'll have to see if we can fit the child in there with all the toys he has. :)

Yay, Lisa! Congrats on the new roomies! Judging by the looks of his daddy, that little boy is quite a charmer. You're going to have your hands full now! ;)

Lisa, I was literally laughing out loud about "too many bathroom celebrations". I'm STILL laughing! The kids think I'm crazy. (They probably did before I started laughing, though...)

Ruth, I keep my greens in open bags as well. Rachel Ray washes hers and then wraps them in paper towels and puts them in the fridge. Are you sure your fridge is a good temperature? Are you sure the greens haven't been travelling so far that they're already sour when they get to you? In Korea, I had to literally use baby spinach the day I purchased it or it would go bad. I think it was a combination of bad refrigeration and long travels for the poor babies. Your worms should keep relatively well, though! :D

Schmoo, thanks for asking about Connor. He's back to 100%. Did a full day of school today and is now resting on the couch watching PBS.

Cat, I love the idea of converting everyone to the Beachy way of life! What a splendid idea!

Kim, we had a Texas Crape Myrtle when we lived in Maryland (but not when we lived in Texas - ???). We were in base housing, so they took care of the maintenance of it, but I remember it being cut WAY back every year, like nearly to the trunk! It always bloomed beautifully, though.

Congrats on the NSVs all you skinny-minnies!

Hi to everyone else! (I've just forgotten all of what I was going to write to the remainder of the posters...)

We're off to Tom's mom's for dinner tonight. Heaven knows what she's cooking, as I believe she uses her stove maybe once a year, if that. I'm bringing broccoli, and I think I will try to whip together something else as well so I at least have two solid choices for dinner. She had mentioned macaroni and cheese, which likely will be orange and boxed and my kids, quite hilariously, turn up their noses at that, so I'll have to figure out how to bring enough for them without hurting her feelings. Tough call. Maybe I'll just feed them before we go?

Avery's up, so I've got to run. Have a good Friday afternoon, all!

Oh dear, Kara, I hope your dinner at Tom's mother's isn't too awkward. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that she has something healthy choices for all of you! :crossed: I'm glad Conner is better, maybe you can tell your MIL that his tummy is still a little tender and has to be very careful about what he eats. ;)

Schmoodle, a turkey London Broil is a turkey breast cut in the shape and size of a regular London Broil. It's made by ShadyBrook Farms, so you should be able to find them in your area. Very yummy! Congratulations on your raise! :carrot:

Kim - There are crape myrtles all over the Dallas area. We have one in our backyard that was here when we bought the house 11 years ago. We've never done anything to it although I do know some people that cut them back but most don't. I'm not sure how well I'm going to like it being so close to the pool though. It depends on how many flowers end up in the skimmer.

I have tried posting a couple of times and keep getting interrupted so I'm not going to even try personals. I've been working on a slideshow for the Arrow of Light ceremony tomorrow. I had all my pictures in there and then was given a DVD of over 2000 pictures last night. I've gone through every one and have built the slideshow with the best 204 pictures. That's about 7 minutes which may be too long but maybe they can do other stuff while the show runs.

Tonight is the school carnival so I need to leave work and get Brian fed before we go back up to school. Tomorrow we want to try to do yardwork before the ceremony in the evening but the weather may not cooperate. It was 85 yesterday but we had a cold front go through so rain is expected.

Kim we're in Zone 6, and we have both the regular and dwarf Crepe Myrtles. We don't do anything to them except for some light pruning now and then, and just have them growing in sunny areas. They are just gorgeous. I used to snip off the spent flowers every year, but now they are too big for me to do that.
