Hi All,

My name is Dawn and I have suffered from depression for most of the last 9 years. I am currently on Effexor to treat it. My weight is a major thing that gets me down and my self-esteem is in the toilet because of it. I thought maybe talking with others in the same situation would help me get this weight off and help me bring up my self-esteem. Maybe my medicine is inhibiting my lose in some way. I don't know the effects of this medication on weight loss.

Hi Dawn,

Leenie is right - these are the absolutely sweetest people! I'm relatively new to this board, too. Having a place to talk about the special struggle of dealing with weight issues and depression has been really great. I'm glad you're here

Hi there and welcome. I don't usually post on this board but I lurk often. The place you are in is where I was a year ago. I got the baby blues after my 3rd baby and was on effexor. I totally believe that it helped in the beginning...it got me out of my funk, however I could not lose to save my life while I was on it. I was doing WW at the time and working out 4 to 6 days a week and I lost nothing! So I discussed it with my dr and we weaned me off while I was also visiting still with my counselor. I can not stress enough to wean off the effexor with your dr's help because the withdrawl (if you don't do it right) is very unpleasant (we're talking months). Together we decided that I was doing well enough to continue on with the help of meds, your dr and you should decide what is best for you, if you so choose to change the effexor....I just remember how the weight gain and impossible task of getting the weight off depressed me and sent me right back where I started (personally toward the end I felt worse-depression due to weight can be debilitating-in my opinion). You are not alone, I will check back to see how you are doing...if you want to talk.

You Can do it!

Hi Dawn, my name is Nikki and I'm new here also. I just read your post and felt like I was reading something that I wrote! I'm also taking Effexor, and was not even considering the effect on my attempt to lose weight. Boy am I glad you joined! I'm also glad to have read the post from thisrlipo about the Effexor. I think I'll give my Dr a call tomorrow and see what he suggests. Best of luck to you!!!
