Hello everyone,

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend. :)

I went to a food and wine show yesterday which was a lot of fun but of course I ate and drank too much.

Then I went to a local fleamarket today and traded in some paperbooks for new ones then I went for a walk in the afternoon sun.

How is everyone else doing?

11-05-2007, 11:50 AM
Wow, it sounds like you had a fantastic, relaxing weekend, mauvaisroux. Mine was okay. The weather is simply gorgeous down here; the leaves are turning; the temp is perfect, but I have to spend most of my time inside writing papers and essays. I have never had a semester this jam packed! Oh, sweet, sweet January, you cannot come soon enough!

The weekend was productive. I got my first big grad school application sent off (which included two essays) and a paper on Mary Daly almost complete. I did make time this weekend to make some yummy Butternut Squash soup, which was delish and really autumnesque. It's already gone though! Must...make....more.

Also, took a break Saturday night and went to the movies. We saw The Darjeeling Limited--Wes Anderson's new film (he did The Royal Tennebaums, Rushmore and some other quirky films). It was one of the best films I have seen all year! A must if any of you have time (or make time like me).

This morning, I am sitting in my office in the writing lab, was all pumped to finsih my paper and I left my flash drive at home. Grrrr...., but that means I have time to check in with you all. I have been following the threads, but with all these papers out the wazoo (seriously, I have written 4, have 3 more to go, one of which is my 40 page thesis) not much time to post. Thanks for being here and being inspirational.

On a brighter note I weighed in at 154.5 this morning and am wearing pants I couldn't wear this summer :)

Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

11-05-2007, 12:01 PM
Your weekend sounded fab mauvaisroux! Good luck with your papers and grad school app Ollie! Also, congrats on wearing those pants :carrot: I can't wait to fit into old clothes, it'll be like having a whole new wardrobe, at no extra cost :)

I had a wonderful weekend, I went to Witchfest on saturday (posted a thread about it in paganchicks) and spent yesterday recovering from the late night and mead intake!

I'm feeling wonderfully inspired to do and be the best I can, which is great, but I'm also nervous as I have a preliminary interview for a job tomorrow. I really want the job and I KNOW I can do it, the main problem is overcoming the nerves. And with nerves disappears my apetite :( I must eat some lunch/tea. It's 4pm here and I've only eaten toast today!

I hope everyone is having a good week ;)

11-05-2007, 11:02 PM
Ollie - good luck with you applications and papers and congrats on the weight loss! :cp:

going2B - your fest sounded really fun ( I posted a reply in the paganchicks forum) and good luck with your interview! :crossed:

I am still swamped at work and spent 2 hours this morning just replying to telephone messages and e-mails. :faint:

It's my mum's birthday tomorrow so we are going out for a light supper and then to a craft show. We are also going to try to shop for gifts for the Samaritan's Purse shoebox drive which we have to have packed and dropped off by Saturday.

11-06-2007, 06:46 PM
Thanks for the well wishes on all my papers!

goin2b--How did the interview go? Well, I hope.

I feel like I am post-happy, but I need to be, so bear with me, After my initial 10 lb. weight loss, I could feel myself slacking off a little. I must have been thinking "Okay, 10 lbs. I'm done. Yay!" Nope. Not even close. I won't let myself do teeter. So I am stepping it up. If it takes me posting on here 4 times a day, to remind myself of my goals, so be it!

I don't know about everone else, but when the weather starts to turn like it is, I get in soup making mode! What is everone else cooking? I need some fab fall food ideas. Oooooo...I love alliteration.

11-06-2007, 10:46 PM
Oh yeah - the soup is on! I love making soup and stews as well as doing a bit of baking. :chef:

I unfortunately can't share my soup recipes as I just kind of throw them together. I took my mum's Scotch Broth and made a vegetarian version, took a Tuscan bean soup recipe from the 3fc front page and tweaked it by adding garlic and some fresh grated parmesan - most of my stuff is tweaked or off the top of my head - I should really write these things down. I will look for a few to post.

At the craft show today I bought a kit that included an Indian cookbook and a set of six spices to use with the book. The company is from British Columbia and they grind all their own spice blends. One of the owners is Indian and she wrote the cookbook - they are very simple basic Indian food recipes - I am really looking forward to trying out the recipes and the spice blends.

11-07-2007, 07:33 PM
Mmmm....I heart Indian cuisine! We have a fantastic Indian restaurant in town, but I have never tried to cook it at home. It's so different than any other food. Let me know how it turns out. What spices came with the book?

I made Vegtetable soup yesterday...and I am like you, I always just throw stuff in a pot. I need to fill up my spice rack though. I'm down to a few spices and when that happens a lot of the stuff tastes the same. It turned out great though. So easy and low cal.

11-11-2007, 09:17 AM
Hi everyone :)

The prelim interview went well, I passed the online and phone interview (the job is based on the phone) and was booked in for a face to face intereview/selection day thingy the next day. When I got there mine and another girls name weren't on the list and they said there must have been a mix up and they were fully booked. I was really bummed out, was on a high from everything going through so quickly, but got another selection day booked for this coming wednesday, so fingers crossed for that! Also it's in the afternoon, so I'll be more awake for this one, lol.

Me and my other half make soups regularly, we've been trying new recipes, but I tweak mine too. We made a sweet potato soup last night, which we've had before and is YUM! It's going to be lunch and dinner, I'm sure ;)

I've also dipped into my savings to buy some supplies to start making things to sell on ebay. I got loads of ideas for things to make for sabbats and festivals at witchfest and got to thinking, why not try selling them too? I scoured ebay for similar items, and there is definitely a gap in the market :D Let's just hope it's not because no one wants to buy these kinds of things!

Unfortunately, my healthy eating has not really gotten off the ground and my sleeping is all over the place too :( my OH has a lot of uni work on at the mo so is staying up later than usual and I'm getting myself into the habit too! I must stop it. I'm going out to get a few more bits in town today then plannning to go for a run just before it gets dark... has anyone else noticed how quickly daylight disappears lately?

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

11-12-2007, 08:24 PM
Good luck with the job interview going2bhealthy!

Ollie - the kit came with cumin seeds, turmeric, garam masala, red chili powder, black mustard seeds, Thana Jeeroo (something new to me) and a blend of whole spices (black peppercorns, cardamom pods and a couple of things I don't recognize).

I may try out the butter chicken recipe later this week. I could eat Indian food 5 days a week! :D

I was off work today (3 day weekend for government workers) so I made some soup this afternoon - Italian chicken soup (my own concoction of leftover chicken cooked with whole garlic cloves, onion, carrot, canned tomatoes, spices and tini pasta shapes topped with some fresh grated Romano cheese - yummy!)

The house smelled amazing with a pot of soup simmering on the stove. :chef:

11-12-2007, 11:37 PM
Hey everyone - sorry I haven't been around in a few days... been battling my own demons around here. :dust: for everyone this week! :)

Suzanne 3FC
11-13-2007, 11:23 AM
Oooh, I could smell the spices from the Indian food in here. If you're going to flaunt it, at least share recipes

11-13-2007, 12:14 PM
Thanks for the wishes mauvaisroux! Butter Chicken??? That sounds DELICIOUS!! And I agree with Suzanne, we want recipes :D

Enygirl - I hope things are on the up for you! Remember we're always here for you

After a stupid argument with my other half last night I feel a bit bummed out and I have that interview tomorrow which I no longer feel prepared for or excited about :( I'm going to have to find some energy from somewhere. On the upside, I bought some fruit tea bags to try and wean myself off hot drinks that involve milk and calories and the ones I tried this morning are really yummy! :carrot:

My aim for today is to do my gym ball workout, eat dinner at a civilised hour and go to bed relatively early. Hope everyone is doing well!

11-13-2007, 09:10 PM
Going2bhealthy - here's some good vibes for your interview - :goodvibes

Enygirl - and some:dust: for you!

Work was busy again today and I can foresee no rest until Friday. :faint:

I'm starting back at my yoga class on Friday night and I am really looking forward to it. It's a tough class but I feel really good by the end of it and it will probably help release the stress from the work week. :yoga:

I will share a few recipes once I have tried them out. :)

11-14-2007, 09:43 AM
Well, they called last night and cancelled the interview AGAIN! I'm not happy at all about this :( I heard from the agency I went through today and was told that other people have had this problem and we were all supposed to start training on monday and that they are waiting for confirmation as to whether we can just temp there from monday until a permanent interview date comes up. Fingers crossed for that, but to be honest I'm sick of being messed around by these people. Having heard so many good things about how they treat their employees, they aren't very good with their potential employees!!! But I'm going out for a drink with a new Witchy friend in a couple of hours which should let off some steam. Let's see how well I stick to the diet cokes!

11-14-2007, 11:30 AM
going - I'm sorry that they're giving you the running around! how crazy!!

Thanks for the positive thoughts and support  I'm doing better... just had some issues with the ex earlier this week - but they're temporarily worked out. I wish he would just disappear! Apparently there aren't enough shooting stars for that wish to come true!

Good news of the week thus far is that my weight is fluctuating between 185-187 instead of 191-193 two weeks ago! Woo Hoo! Now if I can just get it down to fluxing 123-125 I'd be all set :)

11-15-2007, 08:19 PM
Aack! Okay, how come it takes me almost 3 weeks to lose 5 pounds and 3 days to gain it back?!?!?! This week has not been good for my 'lifestyle change' and I could use some words of encouragement.

My brother got kicked out of his house and came and stayed with me last weekend which meant I was the comrade, which meant drinking beer to drown away sorrow, which meant I was the comrade beer drinker. Ugh. That led to all greasy food and every day since he has wanted to "hang out" I haven't done a workout video and have drank way too much beer and ate way too much cheese. So here I am thinking I got "the night off" about to pop a tape in and the phone rings.

I need to learn how to help my bro, but eat asparagus, drink water and do crunches simultaneously.

Hope everyone is well. If there is a good kofta recipe in the book do share, mauvaisroix! I think that's what you call the veggie balls. Yum.

Congrats on the weight loss enygirl:) It feels good to see the scale go down. I need that again!

11-16-2007, 08:50 PM
Ollie and going2Bhealthy - to both of you - hope things get better!

Ollie - maybe you can get your brother to go out for coffee instead of beer?

Well TGIF! I had another busy day today but did get a break for lunch with a couple of my co-workers which was a nice treat. I enjoyed my lunch and had a bowl of Tom Kha ga (sp?) soup and vegetarian spring rolls instead of a full meal which gave me a chance to indulge in some coconut ice-cream :T

Tomorrow I am meeting one of my girlfriends for lunch and shopping. :)

11-18-2007, 11:29 PM
Hello - hope everyone had a good weekend! :)

I had a great time with my friend yesterday - we did a bit of cross-border shopping and stopped for dinner at a rib place - yummy! :T

Today I just lazed about reading decorating mags and drinking tea - nice and relaxing!

11-19-2007, 02:16 PM
Lazed about. Ahhh...that sounds wonderful. And no, bro doesn't do coffee I tried. But the situation is over with now, back to rice cakes, coffee, granola and water:) Still not getting any exercise though as ALL my spare time is writing final research papers. It's crunch time! Hopefully, I can keep my eating on track and just do exercise when I can and I'll be okay.

I made some yummy vegetarian chili yesterday. Think it's me best batch yet!

Well, back to the grind...

11-20-2007, 08:02 AM
Hey everyone! I had a lovely weekend, went to a friends and met her gorgeous children and they loved me, which is always nice, hehe. Eating hasn't been great for me, but on a good note I started work yesterday! They asked me to start training on a temp contract until they can sort out my references (my last job is being lazy), so I'm earning WOO! Now just to get in some more excercise!

Eny, I'm glad things are better for you! Hang in there :D

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I hope you're enjoying the direction of this week!! :D

11-20-2007, 12:43 PM
I had the BEST Weekend!!! I took Joe (my boyfriend) to Dave & Busters for the night... I ate :mcd:, :jeno:, Drank until i stumbled  and It was WONDERFUL!!!! Until Monday morning when I stepped on the scale - knowing full well that I gained. It was #10.5(up to #196) AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! I didn't think it'd be THAT much!.

Then again i ate mcd's 3 times, had 4 slices of pizza w/ Crazy bread.. drank a TON, and had Big Johns the next day to round off the "great" weekend. I'm also expecting TOM anyday now - so I know some of it is water weight... I usually gain between #5-7 the week of his visit.

Needless to say I'm not goi9ng to make my Turkey Day goal (#180.5)... or my November goal (#178).. but I still have hope for Christmas.. if I really work my butt off (literally)... I don't know - maybe more of it's water then I think and I only gain a little... maybe November's goal is still within reach. The official weigh in is Friday.

I have to tell you though - with everything that's been going on in my life lately - I needed to completely binge... maybe not to this extreme - but I'm not beating myself up over it this time... It was worth it!

11-20-2007, 08:35 PM
That's great news going2Bhealthy! :cb:

Enygirl - yeah, I blew it with the rib, mac & cheese and sweet potato dinner on Saturday night- :0

We just have to get back to it now! :)

11-20-2007, 08:54 PM
Well, that makes all of us! I haven't fully recovered from my family situation and last night the hubby ordered Papa John's which was waiting for me when I got home from work. Good news is I only ate 3 slices, when my usual is more like 5. Maybe Monday we can start a back on track thread. I say Monday and not tomorrow for obvious reasons. :thanks2:

Eny, gald you're getting some money, honey.

11-21-2007, 08:50 AM
A back on track thread sounds good to me!

Woke up this morning to our first snowfall! Everything looks so pretty!:snowglo:

I have another busy day ahead of me today - can't wait for Friday!

Hope everyone has a good day! :)

11-23-2007, 08:15 AM
You're so lucky to have snow! Living right next to the sea we don't often get it and if we do it never really settles :(

I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving? Back on track sounds good, my eating isn't going well as I can't get up early enough to fit in breakfast and lucnh before I go to work, so end up eating two good meals and snacks that aren't so good. BUT I stepped on the scale and it was 197.2 so a loss of 2.4lbs from the end of last week (I didn't change my ticker, but it was 199.6 :() So being up and about is obviously helping!

Now just to get up earlier and fit in some exercise!!!

Happy Friday everyone!!!! xx

11-23-2007, 01:07 PM
So, YES, back on track thread Monday. And you know what, I think this may be a case when it is good to have such a small dedicated support group as opposed to getting lost in the hundreds of posts on other threads. Groovy. We can do it to it. And I haven't stepped on the scale in 2 weeks! We shall see!

I had a good Thanksgiving. It's always nice to be around family and friends, and forget about the day to day grind for a wee bit.

mauvairoix Snow:) I love the white blanket on everything. It hasn't snowed here since '96. Each year I cross my fingers. Maybe this will be the year! Of course, people go apes**t around here if it is even in the forecast. Hope you are getting to enjoy the beauty!

Have a great weekend all!

11-23-2007, 02:27 PM
:happ3:Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

I guess today is "Black Friday" for you in the U.S. I guess there are some good deals to be had but I just can't deal with the crowds. I don't go out shopping on boxing day either -

It's been snowing for the last few days here and looks really pretty (unless of course you have to shovel it) and the streets seem so quiet.

Re: the diet - I have not had any alcohol for 3 weeks (I usually have a glass of wine with dinner on Friday or Saturday night) and I am down to 1 coffee per day. Next week I am going to start gradually cutting back on the sugar too. Right now I take 2 tsps in my coffee or tea and I want to get down to one. I know I will never drink either black or with artificial sweetener :barf: so my compromise is 1 tsp instead of 2. :coffee2:

11-24-2007, 01:02 PM
Black Friday : At my house we celebrate Buy Nothing Day instead "Acquire Few Needs". I think this got started in Canada, actually. There were people who got up and stood in line at 2 freaking a.m. to buy crap. Useless crap! I don't get it.

No alcohol?!?! Wow, that would be tough for me, I do love a glass of wine or beer. I never get drunk. I just like the taste. Had two glasses of wine last night with me movie. Congrats tho! The little things make a big difference. I would like to cut beer completely out all together. It's not much of a winter drink anyway.

So I weighed this morning for the first time in two weeks and I have only gained a pound!!! Woohoo! How's that for some Monday motivation.

Mauv ever tried honey in your coffee instead?

11-25-2007, 05:08 PM
Ollie - I do use honey in tea but never thought of using it in coffee - is it good? Maybe I will give it a try.

Oh yeah, I have participated in "buy nothing day"

Me and my two friends shopped on Saturday but we went to a shopping district where it is all street level shopping with mostly small locally owned stores. Much less crowed and so much more fun and interesting than the mall.

We also went to an Argentinian restaurant and spent 2 1/2 hours lunching and chatting - it was great!

11-26-2007, 12:34 PM
Mauvairoix I don't like my coffee sweet, but when I cut sugar out of the house, my hubbie started putting honey in his coffee. He seems to like it.

I decided to make photo albums for everyone this Christmas. On Thanksgiving, I James Bonded some pictures from my grandmother's house and will use old pics to put together little scrapbook stories. Can't wait to get started!

Hope everyone's Monday is groovy.

11-26-2007, 05:51 PM
That sounds like a great idea for gifts! :)

I have only bought 2 gifts so far but I at least have ideas for what I want to get for others.

11-30-2007, 12:03 PM
Girls I did it! I am out of the #190's! WOO HOO!!!! :cheer: Today's official weigh in was #188.7! I'm SO excited! Getting out of the #180's by the ball drop is going to even more doable now! :yay:

I was kinda bummed that the other girl I've been neck & neck w/ also lost. She weighs less then me - so her percentages go up much quicker then mine - but I did lose more % this week - she's just winning overall.

I'm getting the rest of my Christmas shopping done tomorrow - it'll be SO nice to be done a few weeks early. I also have to replace a few things that apparently got lost - light ornaments, a tree topper... not too much. I love this time of year though! :santa: I only have my DBF to buy for - even though I gave him his big present early. I spoil him rotten. :)

12-03-2007, 11:01 PM
Way to go! :cp:

I am closing this thread as a December one has started.
