I know it is encouraging to give yourself treats along your weight loss journey.
What are some of the things that you have given yourself?
What will you give yourself when you reach your ultimate goal?
I am trying to think of things I can reward myself with along the way. I know when I reach my ultimate goal then I am going to splurge on a whole new wardrobe with plenty of lingerie! I have never worn lingerie. I have never felt sexy enough for it. I can't wait for the day when I do feel sexy.
What about you? :)

Yup, that's my intention too. I have discovered that nothing takes the edge off a craving like checking out the Victoria's Secret online catalogue. I also like Daddy-O's catalogue for inspiration.
I haven't lost enough to really reward myself yet! I have decided to split up my weight lost into years! I have gained approximately 13 pounds a year for the last 10 years. One more pound and I will have lost "1997". I think that will be cause for celebration.

I've lost 43.5 lbs. as of today being Tuesday... yesterday I got a new hair cut, donated my hair to locks of love because it was uncolored and in good shape and got a shoulder length hair cut with a gorgeous auburn haor color. I look completely different and much smaller which I was so surprised about!!!
I buy clothes from time to time.
I figure I will hit goal weight Jan 2009 which will be my 50th b'day! And so, we are talking Vegas baby and Hawaii that year with some cruises!!!

When I hit goal I want a new wardrobe. As of right now I just buy the bare minimum in clothes just to get me by until I reach my next goal, so getting and entire closet full of clothes at once will be a great treat!
I'd also like to get a "curly" haircut at a nearby salon. I know I know I should treat myself with this NOW but money is tight so I'm saving my money for when that time comes.
I can't wait!!!!!

I am not sure what I will do. I want to be able to be comfortable on a plane. I travel so much just being able to sit in a seat with room around me will be a great reward.

Ohhhh yeah, being able to buy lingerie is vetty, vetty NICE. ;)
And all the clothes - having a phenomenal wardrobe, knowing that you're just as well dressed as any other person in the room at any given time is a phenomenal feeling. Being able to shop anywhere and everywhere is still an incredible thing for me. I am shocked and hadn't expected that I would enjoy it as much as I am. Oh and all the shoes, I bought 2 more pairs yesterday. I keep telling myself that I've got lots of catching up to do, but I tell you, I had best start putting a halt to it, my credit cards are none too happy with me. Nah. I DO have a lot of catching up to do. :D
One of my greatest rewards and pleasures is that I now go for an annual check up - without fail. To both my regular internist and my gynecologist. Instead of pushing off the doctor for years and years and YEARS at a time, I now actually look forward to going to the doctor and yes, getting weighed, blood pressure taken, blood tests - the whole nine yards. Being on top of my health after ignoring it for so long is the greatest gift I could have ever given myself.
I am looking forward to going on a real vacation as well, sometime in the next 6 months or so. I haven't been on a plane for over 15 years, that's how frightened I was of those seats and the dreaded seatbelt extender. And then of course what was I going to DO when I got to my destination? Sit under the shade somewhere? Now I am greatly looking forward to going away and being incredibly active, oh and wearing great clothes while there ;).

Marseille - I like your "losing years" idea. 1997 was a year I could do without, too!
I haven't thought about interim goals - for the time being I'm just thrilled every time I see a pound gone. My "final" reward is a biggie, though - my goal is "Fit by Fifty" -- that's in April 2010. I want to celebrate both milestones with a walking tour of some sort - Ireland or Scotland, perhaps.
I guess in between I'll be rewarded by being able to tackle some local hikes that at this weight & fitness level are just too daunting.

My mini-goals so far have brought me books & little nick-nack things that I think are cute. (Mostly fairy items... magical things with wings display crap ;) What can I say? I get a kick out of dragons & unicorns etc.)
I'm not too original on this, but when I reach my lifetime goal range I will be buying myself an entirely new wardrobe. I will rid myself of all the clothes I only wear only because they fit.
I will spend an entire month if I have to going to different stores(omg, i'll be able to actually shop at more than just one store) to find out what clothes actually fit my personality, not just my body. It will be a tiring & exhilirating process. Something I have -never- in my entire life been able to do. Just thinking about it is motivation!

Well, now that I just checked out that Daddy O's site I now have some new inspiration for when I reach goal. I adore clothes and shoes ,and I want to have a lot of them. I want so many clothes that I can wear something new everyday for at least a month....maybe two. ;)
We have been looking into buying a new home and the one thing I'm firm on is that I must have a huge closet. :D
The other reward I really want is to have really great pictures of me. My boyfriend is an awesome photographer, and while he takes good pictures of me, I come across as insecure because of my weight. It will be so much fun to do a glamour, sexy photo shoot where he can put me in anything he wants and pose me in anyway without me worried about how I look.

I'd love to get a tummy tuck and a lift the girls back up! But, realistically, I don't see myself having those kind of funds any time in the near future..if at all. I might be able to squeeze in some Lasik for my eyes. It would be nice to ditch the glasses and contacts.
Some of you have heard me talk about swimming "sans clothes!" with Hubby in a nice tropical spot in the sun:o....well, we're looking into a vacation for two to a Sandal's resort in San Lucia. December 08 will be our 15th wedding anniversary. Some of the resorts have private little pools....right off the room! Wow, my fantasy might come to life! And, just think....I'll be slender by then!:D

Hmmm. Well, besides getting all new clothes. (gotta have those)
I really want two things.
One, I'm sure by the time I get there I'm going to have some extra stuff that's going to need to be nipped/tucked/or sucked. lol Depending on how everything looks at the end I might need to get something fixed.
OR, if I can swing the funds I'd really like to take a nice tropical vacation with my husband. This year was our 20th anniversary and we didn't do anything. I just couldn't bring myself to put this body in a swimsuit again. Two years ago I had to do it to go to Hawaii for my SIL's wedding. The wedding and the island were beautiful. I wasn't. The year before that we went on a cruise with some friends. I didn't look too good then either. But my friend, who's not small, was along too so I didn't feel too bad. The last time I went on a trip with hubby and felt good about the way I looked was our honeymoon! I'd like to be able to do it again!!
So I've got some big reward ideas for my BIG goal. Right now just ticking my little goals off the list has been reward enough!

Well, I have a strange one. My hubby has already promised this to me, and I'm so looking forward to it! I have a thyroid issue and my messed up hormones has caused facial hair growth. I hate this stuff!! So, he has promised me that I can go have it permanently removed when I reach goal. I know that is an odd thing, but I'm so tired of not looking (or feeling) feminine because of this facial hair.
Another thing, my hubby, 2 boys, and I will be taking an extended vacation up the east coastline, and we are really excited about that because we have never been past TN and it will be in the fall which is our favorite time of year. This is obviously going to be next fall. ;)
I haven't done too many interim treats but have enjoyed a girls' lunch out with my best friend, a few pair of shoes (since my other ones are getting too big), and a few articles of clothing. Those aren't really treats but more like necessities. :D

sometimes "sexy" can be a state of mind!!! Life's too short to wait for anything!!! I'm sure lots of girls are with me when I ask, humbly, for you to go straight to a store and get yourself a sexy bra at the very least! heheheh it's AMAZING what a ridiculous sexy bra or undies can do for your self esteem through the day ~ it makes you feel good :) yay you're worth it :D
hmmmmm as for a big reward for myself.... I don't exactly have a "magic number" i'm aiming for - i put 180 down cuz that seems to be where I was happiest with how i looked -- but maybe 200? maybe 140? I'm not sure til I get closer, and I really have to see what I can live with, food wise. Sure I'd like to be 140 but I know I couldn't live on 1000 cals a day, so I'd rather be 180 and eat more and still smile ;)
My current splurges for rewards are SHOOOOOOESSSSSSSSSS glorious SHOESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS that now, somehow, miraculously, FIT ME!!! the fred flintstone feet have shrunk a bit :) yay!

I have lost a whole shoe size so far. I forgot about that until I saw this thread. I've bought so many pairs of shoes this summer and I had to get them all a size smaller than what I've been getting.
When I hit my goal of course a new wardrobe as promised by mom, lots of cutsie bras b/c I can't find any cute ones in my current size. I'm going to tear down Victoria's Secret. I shop there all ready but mainly for boy shorts and regular cut undies. New cut and color. I'm waiting on this b/c the cut I want will not fit with my currently plump face. However, when I get to goal and hopefully my face will be MUCH smaller, I'm thinking that cut will then work.
Last but not least, PHOTOSHOOT!!!!

I haven't really come up with a reward for the end. But when I hit 25 lbs, I bought a bunch of cute panties. And two new cookbooks for healthy cooking. When I hit 50, I think I might order a Toddy, and some exercise DVDs for wintertime exercising.
That's a fun idea Marseille. I'll have to try and figure out what year I'm losing now.
Trazey, I have flintstone feet too, and that's what we call them! That or "puppy paws." I'm a short-toed, square-footed person in a family of people that have hands for feet.

I bought an ipod when I hit the halfway mark. I've got some play lists of really lively music I use for workouts. But I kind of like the shuffle & how it clips onto clothes, so that may be my 3/4ths reward. Due to some foot problems, I need to wait until 180 before I start jogging. 175 will be my 3/4ths point, so that may be a good time for it. I've tried armbands, but I can never get them to fit right.
When I get to goal, clothes of course. I'm also going to try & schedule some sessions with a personal trainer to help the shift the focus from cardio (which I'll still be doing for maint) to toning (which I'm doing a little bit of now, but want to do more of when I get to goal). And I've done online dating & my digital camera is broken, so I'll probably get a new one to take some new photos, just not sure when.
Also, I occasionally buy a new outfit as a reward. I've bought shoes and sometimes I'll get a manicure/pedicure as a reward for sticking to exercise (my hardest part) when the motivation is flagging.
Also, as a psychological reward, when I have to come in early or work late, I get cravings for things like donuts or a bacon/cheese on a roll. I deal with that by treating myself to fresh fruit at the salad bar at a deli near work in addition to my regular breakfast yogurt. This way, I still meet the need for the reward/comfort for working harder at my job because I have something different than my usual breakfast, but in a way that's not destructive nutritionally. If it's a lunch/dinner craving, instead of burgers & fries, maybe some sushi with a side salad or one of the large, choose your own toppings salad. I usually bring my lunch from home & that's kind of a reward for me.

I think getting to goal would be a treat in itself :) I don't have anything in particular because honestly, I treat myself already. I will definitely be buying clothes because I love clothes :)
I think though I might try to treat myself to something that I wouldn't be able to do at a higher weight such as learn how to rock climb (small heights, I'm a chicken).

My husband and I just booked a trip to Hawaii for May, 2008. I've been putting it off for years since I really didn't see the point of spending a fortune on a trip and then being too self-conscious to be seen in a bathing suit. We had enough credit card miles to book first class seats on the plane which I'm really looking forward to.
My 100 pounds lost reward is going to be the new road bike I've always wanted. They're expensive so I figured making it the 100 lb. reward kind of took away my husband's ability to b***h about the price.

This idea just hit me in the face. I mean...wow. You know when you have ideas that just rattle you to your core? That's what just happened.
In 1999 I was at my goal weight (180). Over the next few years I gained 114 pounds, because so many painful things were happening and I was using food to cope. I love, love, love the idea of letting go of those years. I'll have to sit and figure out where (when) I am now, and draw out a "reverse timeline"!
Thank you soooooooooo much for mentioning this. This will be important in my healing.

I don't really know if I will treat myself, because for me, this is going to be a food struggle for a long time, even after I reach goal. I like to eat and I love to cook. So I don't see as reaching goal as the end.
I do know I will get new clothes, maybe some sexy lingerie...

I can't wait to buy a new wardrobe! I'm so close that it scares me, but I would really like to lose about 10 more and see what size that puts me in. Then I can't wait to get rid of anything that is the least bit too big. I'll give the good stuff away, but then have a giant bonfire for all the large sweats and stuff. I also want to plan a special vacation. We go to Mexico every year and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a tropical vacation, but I would love to go up north and actually get to see what fall really looks like :)

Reaching goal WILL be a treat!
That being said, I am holding off on getting my tattoo until I lose at least 50 pounds. I started working in a tattoo shop when I was 16, and I have a great appreciation for them as an art. I have my sketch all done and it's hanging on the fridge door, so that every time I think about having something I'm not supposed to, I look at it and have to decide what I want more--my tattoo or a piece of stupid cheesecake.
I also want to get a GOOD massage once I reach goal. I'm way too unhappy with my body to consider getting nekked for a hott guy named Jean Claude and having him rub me down.

I reward every five pounds with a small item like a paperback book or a magazine. Now that I've joined TOPS, I also get a reward every 10 lbs from the chapter (either a charm or free dues for the month). For bigger milestone weights I pick bigger rewards (my next one is an MP3 player to use on the treadmill). I haven't picked my goal weight reward yet, but I also don't see that as "the end." Once I hit goal, I will have to plan rewards for maintaining.

When I get to goal, I am expecting to need (and so planning for) a little nip/tuck, after that I will do a complete make-over with wardrobe, hair, make-up, boudoir photos, tattoo, the works. I have been overweight since I was a child so I am definitely going all out when I reach goal... even considering having a coming out party (a la Extreme Makeover)... over the top, I know but still...
The only other BIG thing I have planned is for the -100 lb mark. I am buying a convertible. WooHoo... looking forward to that.
Currently, I buy little things for every -5 lbs. So far, I've gotten a mani/pedi, DVD, iTunes, Nike+ system for my iPod, hockey tickets... this was for -25, and perfume.

I'm boring. My only reward so far is to get a new wardrobe... which is what everyone says, but I truly cannot wait. My fiance says he's going to set aside a "new wardrobe for Rakel" fund so when the time comes that I've lost all my weight, I can shop to my hearts content. He suggested maybe buying a really nice dress and then going out to a ridiculously expensive restaurant (like $50 or more a plate) but to be honest, I would really rather just get some clothes. Maybe if we are better off at that time we could do that too, at least I'm kinda hoping we will be ... :P so maybe we could swing it. But if it comes to a plate of food for $50 or a pair of pants, I'm going for the pants. They last longer :P

Definitely have given myself treats along the way.
My Health has greatly improved.
I don't have any of my old clothes. I seem to shop almost daily either on line or at the local store. (I do have to slow down)
We are going on a vacation from Dec. 19th to Jan. 29th.
Should be lots of fun. Yes both kids are coming along. We are taking the 5 year old out of school. The 19 yr. old has break.
When I reach my ultimate goal I think my husband needs to buy me a convertible. We had a corvette before the 19 yr. old was born. Time for something sporty. I have had enough of driving around an F150 truck.

I've had to buy so many clothes along the way as my sizes changed that I don't really have the financial ability to do the "whole new wardrobe" thing. Also, even though I've hit my original goal, I have plenty of work to do on my body before I've settled into the size I really want to be, I think. I mean, I'd LOVE to have a whole new wardrobe at this size, but for heaven's sake I'm a schoolteacher -- where am I going to get that kind of dough?
I did plan to drink a glass of champagne when I hit 165, which I did at the beginning of October, but I haven't gotten around to it because I've been so busy. Sad, huh?
Oh, and I need to do the haircut thing. Also, Lasik was in my original plans but finances are keeping me from that too.
As for lingerie, I'm tempted to buy some but it would have to cover some of my excess skin. I'm ok with everything except my stomach -- that's staying under wraps, sorry...

Also, even though I've hit my original goal, I have plenty of work to do on my body before I've settled into the size I really want to be, I think.
Me, too. And for me, since I hit that original goal (100 lbs. lost) and made it into the 150s (another goal), I'm finding it difficult to lose more. Not physically--just mentally because I keep saying, oh, you've hit your goal, you can have that cookie.
But. . .that wasn't the question! I'd thought about new clothes, but I'm having more fun being able to buy in thrift/consignment stores because there weren't that many large-size clothes when I was larger. I'm also finding that I get so much joy and gratification just by looking and feeling better, that I found that to be a better reward than the one I originally planned.

I have kind of a weird idea. I think once I get lean, I might stop coloring my hair. I got prematurely grey, (starting at around age 20; by 30 I was completely grey) and I have been putting color on my head ever since. That is a long time to be using that stuff. (I'm 51.) If I were to be grey now, with my overweight and sloppy clothes, I think I'd just look like a frump, but when I get rid of the weight and sloppy clothes, I think it would be ok to go grey. Maybe even shave my head in the process (to eliminate the root lines.) Also, there is a little bit of ego/fear involved here in that I do not want to have a certain look, after losing weight. I am happily single, and a solitary creature. I don't want to look like I'm trying to be cute or anything. So I think grey will be a good way to go.

When I dropped my first pants size, I celebrated by getting rid of the pants that were too big and buying some new stuff. No going back! I'm beginning to approach the next drop in size, although I'll have to wear a belt with my current pants until I fit into the old stuff I have. Don't really have the cash to buy four pairs of $30 pants every time I drop! Then again, the smaller I get, the more likely I can find something cheaper that fits well. Right now, I wear Zana-di and that's the only brand that fits me right.
As for when I achieve my goal, I have a feeling that I will need some serious tucking in the tummy (I've had a gut since I was in middle school), among other places. If I can afford it, I would like to have some of that taken care of, and then it's off to the store to buy some hot clothes! I especially want a pair of knee-high boots. I can never find any that are wide enough.
My biggest wish is to look nice in a dress, though. I always look and feel so fat in a dress. Plus, I love Renaissance gowns with empire waists and I'd love to have one and not look pregnant in it :)

I'm enjoying reading this fabulous thread.
I've thought about the rewards thing so many times, and I guess it always comes back to the rewards that being a healthy size will bring - pretty much what Nelie said earlier. Nothing else seems to satisfy me for doing the work of losing weight and no reward seems to be good enough for myself except the ultimate goal of being at goal.
I also loved what Faerie wrote, it's written perfectly!
Yes, I think I will absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that.

Because behavior is at the root of what I have to alter, I am setting a "journey" goals on doing the right things consistently regardless of specific weight loss. I have 4 things that I have said that I need to do everyday. Now, I can do each of those things at 0% to 100%.
If I have done all the things that I have said I would and I have done them at least 80% I am going to give myself credit for that day.
My first goal is a bottle of expensive (for me) perfume. The cost of the perfume is $65 - 65 days of doing things mostly right will get me my bottle of perfume.
I do have a big weight loss goal and that is a convention held yearly in San Diego. Two years from now, I plan to be there and to have all the energy I need to see the sights.

I thought I would reward myself when I lost 50 lbs. but I never did! Now I've lost 77 and I still haven't done anything.
Honestly, even though it's corny, I feel so proud and happy when I look in the mirror that I do feel that it's a gift to have some self confidence once again. When I reach my final goal I will definitely reward myself somehow though.
I started out weighing 261 and my final goal is 130 so that will make me half of my former self, I feel that needs a reward! I will definitely need all new clothes, I haven't enjoyed clothes shopping in 10 years so that will probably be my gift to myself.

For my smaller goals I buy lush... What is lush you say? ;)
www.lush.com
It is my fat free road to yumminess!
For my end goal... 3 months after hitting and maintaining (just in case I lose more) I will then buy all new clothing... For now I am cycling down sizes I have.
And in April of next year I will take out my wedding dress and try it on to see if I need it altered. ;)

wow, everyone has such great ideas. And I don't think I have anything new to add but to agree with Fairie on the whole shopping for your personality. When I am goal I am going to step out! The one good thing about being big is that when I am goal, nothing will seem to scary to do anymore;) I mean I had to do all of it (travel, shop, go out, whatever) when I felt huge and unattractive, so I imagine that it will feel very liberating to do that all again with half of me gone:dance:
