Default Turns Out, Green Beans ARE A Finger Food

What's to do when my freakazoid family of skinny munchers has the nerve to drag the tortilla chips out to the TV??? Right when I have PMS munchies?

Necessity being the mother of invention, I found some Trader Joe's French green beans in the back of the freezer, cooked them in some leftover chicken broth, put some lemon pepper and seasoning salt on them, put them in a popcorn bowl and at them one at a time while watching "Real Time With Bill Maher!"

Here's the shocker: THEY WERE GOOD! And this morning the green beans and iced tea feel SO MUCH better than chips and margaritas would have.

HAPPY SATURDAY EVERYONE!

Mmmmmmmmmm, tortilla chips.

LOL

The green beans sound good, but sometimes I get really tired of eating "rabbit food" when everyone else is munching Doritos and Cheetos and that sort of thing. So in those instances, I drag out my air-popper and make me a big bowl of air-popped popcorn for when I need something crunchy and salty and without the fat and calories of bagged snacks. As the popcorn descends down into the bowl from the air-popper, I spritz it (in layers, so it's all coated) with fat-free butter spray and sprinkle it with a little bit of salt and sometimes the cheddar flavored popcorn seasoning.

Yummy crunchy snack without having to eat rabbit food when everyone else is enjoying real snacks.

That's so funny because I roasted green beans yesterday and was eating them warm, while telling DS that they were better than French fries. He just rolled his eyes.

(they were better than French fries and are a finger food!!)

YES!!!! They most certainly are!!! One of our favorites around here. Roasted. And I HAVE put them in a large bowl and we HAVE all munched on them as a snack food. No forks required.

I think I'm going to have to start roasting them this fall. I'm a grillin' girl in the summertime... Can you grill green beans??

Yum, I love love LOVE roasted green beans. They're just divine!

I made some this weekend while my parents were here and they looked at me strangely when I was preparing them - it was a case of "here we go, another one of Nic's really odd meals", but they ate more than I did.

Another one converted. My work is done...

Well alright another battle won in the green bean wars. Oh and hey yeah I do grill them, well, the fresh ones I've done on the grill.

You just gotta put them in Reynolds Wrap with a little olive oil drizzle and some garlic cloves. I do like to boil them for 1-2 minutes and let them cool first....

Roasting them is what I've never tried??

Grilled green beans--I do them right on the grill. Spray lightly with olive oil, then grill them over grey coals. You have to watch them and turn them so they don't scorch.

Another excellent finger food is pea pods. I like them steamed with a little soy or balsamic sprinkled on afterwards.

That's great!
Those green beans in particular are really good. They are my 3 year old's favorite--just steamed, with a little olive oil.
Me, I like roasted green beans (like so many others, I see!). And like others here, I totally converted family members. My mom now makes a huge pan of them on sunday to eat throughout the week.

Along those lines, if any of you think that you don't like brussels sprouts, try roasting them: they are amazing prepared this way, and nothing like the stinky mess you get from boiling them.

Something I love to do is cook blackeyed peas. Then once they're cooked, I toss them in a tiny bit of olive oil and salt and put them in the toaster oven until they're crunchy.
