This is exactly what I needed to see this morning. I've been on my weight-loss plan for three months and have had great success with loosing 31 pounds, but (yes there is a BIG BUT) I'm now starting to "loose" my desire to keep going on the straight and narrow path of following my food program. I'm letting frustrations get the better of me and have started to binge eat again at night when no one is around to see. But (one more BIG BUT), after seeing everyone's seven reasons why they want to loose their weight I'm starting to regain the feelings I had when I first started this journey. I'm curious to hear if others experience the same mid-point self sabatoge routine.

04-10-2007, 10:37 AM
Yes Bakersfieldgal, I too "lost" my motivation after 30 pounds. Clothes got loose, compliments coming from all directions... All that made me forget, that HEY! I'm not done yet! I've wasted about 2 months, yoyoing up and down the same 3 pounds... But NOW, as of April 1st, I've "re-committed" myself. And the scale is moving in the right direction! We can do this!!

04-10-2007, 10:44 AM
Nancy.. you are SO right.. I started getting comfortable with the loss, compliments and smaller clothes and lost focus around Christmas..

I think I've gotten over that, and am back on track.. As for my reasons....

1. Being in the public eye so much, I was getting sick of seeing my fat face/*** on TV, filling up the screen

2. I work in a business that requires a certain level of physical fitness and I was just barely scraping by.. Also, with people seeing me represent my division, I felt I wasn't doing so appropriately.. Kind of like seeing a fat cop trying to run down the street..

3. Wanting to play with the kids and not have to stop to catch my breath..

4. Wanting to be attractive to my wife... Not that I wasn't, but you know what I mean...

ON EDIT: Two more reasons...

6. Wanted to wear some of my favorite old clothes again

7. Wanted an excuse to buy more rugby shirts...

04-10-2007, 11:09 AM
1) Want to walk up a flight of stairs comfortably
2) Want to kick diabetes and get off these meds
3) Want to kick high blood pressure and get off these meds
4) Want to avoid the heart transplant my father had
5) Want to have people look at me again and see the person I am and not immediately assume I'm bad because I'm large
6) I want a life again

04-10-2007, 11:09 AM
Great thread Katie...

1. As I get older (turning 50 this year), I want my illnesses to be age related and not fat-related
2. It's not getting any easier to lose weight; aging does slow everything down!
3. Overall appearance is just better when you are in shape
4. So I can continue to shop in the regular sizes
5. To look better in all those fricken digital photos everyone keeps taking
6. So I can retire in 15 years and be in shape to enjoy life!
7. To embrace healthy eating as a lifestyle vs a chore; I want it to become natural!

Hey - Dan, you owe us two more reasons!!

04-10-2007, 11:35 AM
1) To be able to buy clothes because I like them, not because "they fit".
2) To be healthy and fit as I enter my (gulp) 40's.
3) To be able to maintain my active lifestyle without things hurting all the time
4) To be able to look at a picture of myself and not think that I look awful.
5) I want cheekbones. Well, they must be there somewhere!

Hi, guys,
I'm new. I just started LAWL on March 25 and I've lost a little over 6 lb so far. That may not seem like a lot, but trust me. I was on Weight Watchers since January 7, 2007, until I joined LAWL at the end of March and only lost 6 lb that whole time! So 6 lb in a couple of weeks is great! I didn't lose much this week because of the monthly female issue and major bloating :( I'm very happy with the diet so far. I feel healthy, motivated for the first time in a LONG time, and excited about losing weight. I was posting on the iVillage LAWL board, but that board isn't that busy.

My stats are Starting weight 171/Current weight 165/Goal weight 135-140

1. Like someone said before, I want to buy clothes because 1) they're in fashion and 2) they make me look even HOTTER. And I don't want to feel bad that they weren't off the cheap rack because that's all I deserve because I'm a little on the fat side.
2. I want to feel good about myself again.
3. I want to have really cool professional pictures taken so my boyfriend can hang them up at work and show me off.
4. So my weight will be one less thing I need to worry about.
5. So I can buy a real swimsuit instead of the trunks/tanktop combo I wear now.
6. So I don't waste any more time feeling sorry for myself/hating myself for letting myself go.
7. So I can be healthy for a long, long time.

04-13-2007, 05:56 PM
To finally master a life time of disordered eating;
To have my guy friends from college go "Damm, Meg got hot" when we get everyone together;
To be smaller than I was through all of high school;
To have muscles that can easily lift furniture;
To finally wear a bikini;
To brag that even though I'm the same height and 10 pounds heavier than the average american woman, I'm 3 sizes smaller;
To look trim and toned, only 6 more Thanksgivivings until I can pilot the balloon--there's no way in **** I'm having my big tukus in a white jumpsuit broadcast into every TV in the US.

06-11-2007, 05:06 PM
Thanks to whomever started this thread. I need it. I too have lost some weight and am now comfortable in my clothes. I've lost my motivation and need some real and 'artificial' motivation.

1. After finishing my list I'm going straight to my closet and donate buffet pants, muu-muus, and sloppy comfy t-shirts and sweats to charity.

2. I'm going to fill out a subscription card to Martha Stewart mag but not mail it until I reach 205 lbs. (about 3 lbs to go.)

3. LAWL is horribly expensive. I spent some of Grandma's inheritance money on this program and I would hate for Gram to think I wasted her money.

4. I want to decrease risk of heart attack, diabetes, and a second blood clot in my leg.

5. I hate pictures of me at my current weight. I'm 5'10" and have good bones. I should look like a million bucks.

6. I want to feel comfortable around my thin friends and my thin husband.

7. I want to exude confidence in my work and get respect from the people I interact with.

06-12-2007, 08:56 AM
1. I want to prevent or at least delay the health complications that run through the family (diabetes, glaucoma, heart problems)

2. I want to look great in my wedding dress next year. My bridesmaid's are all gorgeous skinny ladies - I don't want to feel fat and ugly beside them...

3. I want to be an arm trophy for my hubby to be. He already thinks I am okay - but it hurts to know that people he works with looked at my photo and told him he could do better...

4. I want to wear my favourite jean shorts again...the ones my mom threw out like seven times and which I always managed to save. I found them again a year ago, I had packed them away when I gained weight. That is what I am judging my success on. When I fit into my shorts again - then I am successful.

5. To have an easier time buying clothes. I live in a small town. Nice clothes for plus size women are not that easy to find.

6. To prove to everyone that I can do this because I know I can!

7. To feel good about myself again. To be able to look in the mirror and like what I see.
