Default Anyone know about blood test

I have to do a baseline 1 hour then 2 hour insulin tolerance test and glucose tolerance test. Does anyone know if these can be done at the same time or do they have to be done separate? And how they are done? I think the glucose they have you drink something but don't know about the insulin one. Thanks for any answers or help.

Hi!

When I was being diagnosed with Type 2 - my testing went this way

I went in (after fasting) they drew some blood

I drank the glucose (the orange is the better tasting one in my opinion)

They sent me out to wait and at 1 hour they drew some blood

I waited some more

Then at the 2nd hour they drew some more blood

I was not allowed to leave the clinic and they asked that I not move around a whole lot - because it could skew the results. So if you get bored easily - bring something with you.....

Hope this helps and good luck with your test!!

When you arrive they should draw a fasting glucose and fasting insulin level. Then they will proceed on with the glucose tolerance test, which involves having you drink a syrupy type liquid and drawing your blood after 1 hr. and 2 hrs. With the testing I have had done, I always knew right after the test what my glucose levels were and had to wait a couple days to find out what my insulin level showed. I just re-read your post. I've never had an insulin tolerance test, only a insulin level and a glucose tolerance test. It seems to me if they were actually giving insulin for the insulin tolerance test that it would skew the results of the subsequent glucose tolerance test.

Ask for the glucose drink to be cold - it's nasty when it's warm.

Yeah - it is rather nasty.... Which flavor did you get?

So - did they say when you were going to get your results back?

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

From personal experience - I think you chose the better flavor -

Not that any of them are tasty to begin with... LOL

But, the supposed "cola" flavored one is truly gross.
