We have a candy drawer at work, I gained 10 pounds at xmas time when I went to work there because of the candy and the fact that I ate out everyday I worked, I still have not lost those pounds yet. I have decided to take a bag of veggies with me when I work friday night and sat. I also am going to get a salad from Wendy's. Is there one better than the other there??

As far as kids go I have been trying to edcuate mine. My oldest who is my dancer is much heavier than my youngest who is a very thin, I have given them the tools and the info to make good decisions. I try very hard not to bring junk into the house. So when they are hungry they tend to reach for fruit, veggies or popcorn. But I know when they hang out at friends houses this is not the case.

I love this thread!!
I can put away candy, pizza, chocolate, bread, chocolate, lasagna, chocolate etc...with the best of em!!!
I know how to lose weight...and I have never learned how to keep it off!!!
I am so happy to be on south beach now!! For once in my life I am learning how to eat the right way for MY body!!! I am learning how good I feel when I eat the right way for MY body!!! I am enjoying starting to look better in MY body!!!!
I can't fault anyone because I am so very guilty of all the things they do!! I used to bring donuts in for everyone when I was on a diet...I wouldn't eat any...but I still brought them for everyone else!!
I just choose now to eat by example...and when people ask me why I'm eating a salad instead of a hamb., or why I am eating my fajitas without chips or tortillas or refried beans and rice, I can give them the answer and they can choose to listen or ignore!!!
I went to dinner with a good friend of mine...she means well...she asked me where I wanted to go...I said "anywhere"...she chose mexican and I got a salad that was perfect...grilled chicken and some vegies...a dark green lettuce salad with about 1/5 of an avacado and about a 1/3 C. black beans! Fresh salsa...all different kinds!
She said...well I am going to eat like the "diet too".
She got a salad with refried beans, lots of sour cream, a tortilla bowl and dressing...and ate my dressing also!!
She said to me, "It's so good being on South beach!!! I ate nachos for breakfast and a big salad with blue cheese dressing and a potato for lunch and now only a salad for dinner too !!!"
I have shown her the information in the book, bought her a copy and emailed her information, helped her write out a menu and written out about 20 recipes for her....so at this point I figure she just isn't ready although she pretends she is on "the beach." I thought that was really interesting!!!
It was so hard not to say anything....but I figure she is a very intelligent woman and she is only fooling herself...

I had a coworker like that, she would talk about how wonderful the food was on South Beach as she ate something totally not sbd. I would always say "You haven't read the book yet, have you?" She would say, "Well, not completely, I skimmed through it."

She quickly left the beach because she couldn't lose any weight on it. Gee, I wonder why..

I was off the beach since last Sunday.. Got back on Today... We are in the middle of a major stressful move..as some of you know.. Anyhoo, my BIL who is 52, majorly overweight came with us to help with my MIL. BIL loves junk food, puts away at least a 12 pk of pepsi a day, eats very little "real" foods, but fills up on Little Debbies, Chocolates, honey buns etc.. He huffed and puffed the whole time that he helped us move the boxes.. DH and I were surprised how well we held up..I cant imagine doing what I did 25 pounds ago! BIL could really see the difference in me and DH and made at least One change . He switched to Pepsi 1.. I just couldnt keep my pie hole shut.. I said Walt, did you know that you consumed over 1200 calories in pepsi alone! I watched him eat and said, there by the grace of god go I had I not finally woke up and found a healthy DOABLE WOE. By the end of the week, he was at least eating more whole foods. I could definitely tell the difference in how I felt this week.. We ate good ole meat and potatoes, we ate at Arbys, and McDonalds, I had fries, I ate the bun, I had a waffle... and last night the big hurrah was chinese food. I woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover.
So I learned 2 things... 1) I don't miss chinese food, 2) White foods dont give me cravings, but make me feel crappy. So it was easy for me to lay my beach towel down once again!

well I think doctors will all tell you something different too. Some may believe in SBD and others Atkins, etc. I know the last time I left my doc, I was in tears and started looking over all the things I COULDN'T eat. I kept thinking if I have to watch my fat, calories, salt, cholesterol, etc, I can basically eat water and, um..yep, that's about it. So, I've taken it into my own hands and gone with SBD. I'm happy and I'll wait til my numbers go down and THEN see what the doc has to say. As long as I feel good, that's all that matters. Right?

In Jan. I was off the top in all my numbers, clear across the board!! From my hemoglobin A1C to Cholesterol and everywhere in between...
I started this diet and had only been on it three weeks when I had my last labs drawn...it was incredibly amazing...everything was drastically improved. My dr. said...oh the medication for your cholesterol is working!! I said..no I don't take it as it was giving me such bad stomach pains...I went on south beach!! She was happy...made me happy...and everything is looking brighter!!
Feeling good is most of what matters! The dr. can help you with meds if your cholesterol numbers are still bad!!!
