I started out walkin , so yes. Then I increased and went with hiking, another yes. Now I mainly run. I'm half way through the app called c25k and I've never run before. Any chance I can walk , in addition to running, I will ( such as into town on errand , parking mile away from shopping centre etc)
That depends on you. If you are able to lose weight simply by adding exercise, then yes, probably. For me, it would not be, because I cannot lose weight without addressing my diet as well as exercising.
From what I understand, weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I think exercise is for fitness while calorie restriction is for weight loss. As far as exercise, walking is great but I've read that lifting heavy weights is ideal for fat loss. To me, it doesn't matter what is best....what matters is what you can do and what you'll stick to long term.
I like walking as it is free and simple! I need to start again and will walk with hand weights or Nordic walking poles so work upper body as well. Bit too old for running as knees are not too good probably due to masses of aerobics and jogging when younger!
