Hi! I am in desperate need of a new playlist for long distance walking. Funny but kind of not I have let myself become ALL country so I have no idea what songs are out there with an up beat that will help my walk become faster and and more enjoyable. You don't have to post your whole playlist here, but any ideas would be so helpful!
I did like a litte techno, hip hop and rock at one point in my life
I can't be much help, but it's funny you say this. I have 1,037 songs on my ipod and just normally just put it on shuffle. Lately, though I've challenged myself to listen to all 1,037 songs in order... I'm only on the Cs... LOL
Yeah, like Susan, I have a ton of music. But here is some music I particularly love to run to:
(warning: weirdness ahead)
(also, I don't listen to the radio so not much of this is "new" music)
(also, did I mention I'm weird and have weird tastes?)
Love rollercoaster - Red Hot Chili Peppers version
Low rider - War version from Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke
Oh Yeah - from Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
Rock n Roll Part 2 - Gary Glitter
Heavy Metal - from Heavy Metal soundtrack
Venus - Bananarama
Short Skirt and Long Jacket - Cake
Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols
Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters
Relax (the extended version) - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Who Do You Love - George Thourouoouououougood (I never remember how to spell his name)
I Love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Weird Science - Oingo Boingo
Feel Good Inc ft. De La Soul - Gorillaz
Black Velveteen - Lenny Kravitz
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Instant Replay - Dan Hartman
Groove Is In the Heart - Deeeeeee Lite
Now, you will quickly notice that my tastes are of course, totally not weird. Not.
I use these for walking too, so the tempo varies a bit to keep it getting too monotonous:
Amy McDonald- Don't Tell Me that It's Over, Spark
Alex Cornish- Breathe Slow
Adele- Set Fire to the Rain
Imagine Dragons- Radioactive
Shakespeares Sister- Stay
The Verve- Bittersweet Symphony
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Bring It On
Chris Rea- Road to ****
The Script- Hall of Fame
Ellie Goulding- Explosions
The Cure- Just Like Heaven
BabyBird- Back Together Again
Band of Horses- The Funeral
Lana Del Rey- Ride, Summertime Sadness, Blue jeans
Led Zeppelin- In the Evening, Kashmir
Admiral Fallow- Isn't This World Enough
Mark Knopfler- Boom, Like That
OMD- So In Love
Paolo Nutini- Rewind
Paul Simon- Spirit Voices, Cool cool River
REM- Electron Blue
Florence and the Machine- No Light, No Light
Peter Gabriel- In Your Eyes

Reason: Oh, for Pete's sake; I can believe Chris Rea's song need's to be starred out. It's H E double hockey sticks.
Hoping I'm not "crashing the party"... There's an awesome rockabilly/swing kind of album by Imelda May, think its called "Mayhem" that has some really good tracks on it. I like pretty well the entire album...
Another "eclectic" artist that I like is a gentleman named Junior Brown that plays a double-necked guitar. Couple of songs are "highway patrol" and "my wife thinks your dead"... Warning-might sound a bit different than most things you've heard.
Billy Joel-Root Beer Rag(playing ragtime sooo fast it'll make you wonder how he can DO that)
I know you asked for specific songs, but the American Graffiti Soundtrack is unbelievable, as well as the Forest Gump Soundtrack, and the soundtrack to FM... Hmmm, seems like the soundtrack to "you've got mail" has some great stuff, too. I love some oldies, so any of these might fit the bill...
Maybe Boston's "Boston" album?
Roy Orbison-almost ALL of his stuff owns me, too.
I'm afraid I migrate towards standards like Michael Buble and Diana Krall most of the time when I get home just to unwind. I'll try to have a look at the album collection to find some other stuff... Geeez, I sound like an old fart.
I am appreciating all of these suggestions. Gives me so many choices to listen to. I do not call people's choices in music weird... eclectic maybe but not weird unless of course all you listen to is the gundum style dude... then I think that is weird and just wrong hahaha. But seriously thank you all for the interesting choices.

I have 9000 tracks on my playlist lol that's a fraction of our music library. It is an illness, but we haven't bought more than a few albums since we became Spotify addicts.
I keep meaning to update my ipod because the music on it is limited. My husband put a bunch of stuff on it that I like but it is not good moving music. For example The Beatles and The Grateful Dead. I prefer to use the shuffle function too. I download the KEXP song of the day (find it under podcasts in itunes) and then, since its a podcast you have to fiddle around with it to get it to play consecutively. The music is indie/alternative. And some of it is pretty bad, but you just skip those. and delete them later. I like to listen to new stuff and the only time I find to do it is when I'm out running.
I like mostly older pop and almost all minor key. Here's some I like with a strong/fast beat:
Donna Summers - Hot Stuff
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
Duran Duran - Wild Boys
Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
Dead or Alive - You Spin me Round
Blondie - One Way or Another
Thomas Dolby - She blinded me with science
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Clash - Rock in the Casbah
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax
Thanks to all of you for your input. I have put together a nice fresh playlist based on the suggestions here. Wonderful new music to rock out to while I am walking!
