This segment is part of the HBO documentary, Weight of the Nation. This piece interviews overweight people and their experiences with discrimination because of their weight. I could relate to so many of the stories, and have read about similar experiences and feelings here on 3FC. Click on the Youtube link below to watch. So sad....
I am glad you have people to share it with. The only place I really talk about my weight struggles is here at 3FC! I really felt emotional during some of the interviews - I could so relate to some of the feelings and experiences being shared.
I'm going to watch it after my kids are in bed tonight. I don't want them to know how hideous people can be. But I did read a couple of pages of comments and I just cannot believe how people are. It's really gross.
Great documentary. I agree that by stigmatizing fat people, we are making them feel worse and that will make them eat more. That's how it would be in my case anyway. Gastric band patients often say: "I have lost weight but I still have exactly the same psychological issues with food as before but these have not been addressed so I still have a problem." Overweight people often are overweight because of self esteem or other psychological issues and so criticizing them is the opposite of what's needed. People are so stupid!
